During my time at E3 this year I got to see a wondrous amount of unreleased games and while I was only able to get my hands on a few select titles I was able to get some playtime in with this: Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. A 'what if' scenario, ORC explores what would have happened back in 1998 had Umbrella been much more thorough in their clean-up efforts of the infamous Midwestern town. Capcom was kind enough to drop a new trailer for the game with a release date of March 20th, 2012.
The trailer will definitely give franchise fans much to froth at the mouth over but I've also included a gameplay session I recorded of the game back in June below the trailer. Despite being a third-person shooter it is surprisingly scary a game as zombies are damn fast and will surround you in nothing flat if you aren't careful. It feels distinctly like a cross between a tactical TPS like SOCOM or Ghost Recon with Valve's wonderful zombie shoot-em up Left 4 Dead. Opinions in the gaming community are mixed but I'm getting a good feeling about this one.

Personally I don't see why this game is getting as much negative attention as it is. Sure its not like any other Resident Evil title ever released before and its not focused on being "scary" per se but I think everything looks really solid. I don't know too much about the way the game's mechanics work however. So for now I'm going to reserve judgment until I know how the guns feel, how the individual characters work together and how the general control scheme is set up, but personally I think this game is shaping up to be one of 2012's delightful surprises.

[...] Capcom’s Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a bit of an oddity. The game is a four-player cooperative third-person shooter set in Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. Players take control of Umbrella agents tasked with eliminating everything and everyone that links the viral outbreaks back to the Umbrella corporation. We see a lot of name drops for characters and creatures throughout series. Though Resident Evil 2 seems to be the main focus for the game’s setting some of Resident Evil 3′s characters have bleed into the plot. Resident Evil 3′s Nemesis and Umbrella agent Nicholai are reintroduced into the fold. You can check out the story trailer we have posted here. [...]
