From what I've seen, which is a lot my dear boy, this looks to be the first real video of the Skyward Sword upgrade system.  It seems to be fairly straightforward, but I do like that you can find various components or regents  hidden in the world as well as on the monsters you kill. I also like that it seems even your most basic items will have numerous permutations to them as they upgrade...and that this is represented graphically as well.

This video also shows off a bit of the flying system (although honestly, there are already some better videos out there showing this off). What you see here, however, is fairly pre-scripted movement into atmospheric flight but then shots of link actually traveling beneath the clouds as well. What we'll see eventually is probably a combination of both but, like others, I would like to see the freedom of total flight throughout the game handled in the same way that Wind Waker handled sea travel.

I'm starting to get hyped for this game. o.o Wouldn't have guessed this when the first awful trailers were released.

I had my doubts about this, but this trailer got me much more excited for this game. Most zelda games have been pretty straight foward, with very little custimization or rpg elements, but this upgrade system could make up for those aspects. Links face looks slightly derpy though...

Hmmm looks interesting I hope they make it so you could upgrade it in different ways. Like maybe the slingshot could be either fires more shots and hits more guys OR make it so it makes whoever it hits move slower towards you.

I'm glad Nintendo is finally adding some depth to the Zelda franchise. Hopefully there will be more depth to come in the future.

On an unrelated note, I'm really not liking Link's new look. He looks far too feminine and his new voice (which sounds like Goemon from the Mystical Ninja game on N64) just doesn't fit. His large lips/eyes and soft, round eyebrows make him look less like an adventurer and more like a housewife which, in turn, contradicts his new deep voice.

    Dem tight red pants.

Totally excited about this game. First trailers didn't quite grab me, but now that we're seeing more game mechanics, I'm looking forward to seeing more of the flying!

Speaking of, the birds remind me of shoebill storks. Only prettier.

But what the hell is up with Link's lips. =/

I'm not sure, this could turn to an MMO-like grind if the upgrade costs aren't balanced well enough (or balanced to my liking I should say). That was one of the things I hated about the crafting in DQ9. Hopefully it won't be like that though.

Can't wait to see what the ultimate weapons will look like! I could use a Super Mega Omnislash Master Sword when I go against Gannon.

Oh also, I would like to see link have a voice... eventually. I'm sure its too late for this game, but you can only have so much relation or development in a silent protagonist character.

    . . .

I'm sorry, I can't get over how Link's design kind of looks like his Wand of Gamelon self went 3D. >.>

ANYWAY, I think this is the first time I've seen a video of Skyward Sword's world that wasn't a trailer, so thus far, I'm digging the design. As far as the upgrading system goes, it looks pretty neat; kind of like Wind Waker in terms of collecting, which worked out alright for me, and hopefully it should give a bit of replay value. I wonder if certain items can be given different buffs to branch off from? Maybe the Slingshot will actually be a useful weapon that doesn't take up space once you've got a Bow. :D

As I mentioned in the forum, this concept seems both interesting and out-of-place if the possibility of branching upgrade trees ends up being a reality. Otherwise, a linear upgrade system is somewhat boring when you consider that you would normally upgrade your gear in other games just by getting better items. Sometimes, you'd even get to keep your old items and make strategic use of them later on. Now I'm thinking that we'll just be tossing that stuff away and sticking to a single set of "the best I can get at the moment" items. But I have faith in the LoZ series, so we'll see how things turn out. I can't say I see myself NOT buying this game when it comes out.
