Let's face it: Gamescom is the E3 of Europe and while we wish we could be there to see all the updates to games we saw at E3 as well as newly announced titles like Borderlands 2, crossing the pond is simply too expensive a venture to consider right now. Luckily though we can bring you a compendium of news and updates through this merry little portal to the world called the internet. So, if you need to get caught up on all the latest gaming chatter, read below.
- First off: Battlefield 3. EA officially showed off the game's co-op mode which will not support splitscreen play. The co-op campaign is separate from the game's singleplayer campaign and the mission demonstrated at EA's press conference showed two players infiltrating an insurgent stronghold to rescue a hostage before escorting the escaping column of humvees. - EA also unleashed a new trailer, this one for the game's multiplayer map "Caspian Border" which features the first gameplay footage of air combat. Here's the trailer:
- On the other side of the spectrum Activision saw fit to announce two new pieces of information regarding their crown jewel title for the year: Modern Warfare 3. For one of the game's Spec Ops missions Infinity Ward is turning things on its head by having one player on overwatch as a sniper who must protect another player decked out as a juggernaut. The second player will have to move from location to location disarming bombs while taking quite a bit of damage before even coming close to being downed.
- Activision also confirmed that the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 will support dedicated servers so yay on that front.
- For those who are looking for less bullets and more scares Konami brought us plenty of Silent Hill news. The Silent Hill HD collection, previously exclusive to the Playstation 3, will be coming to the Xbox 360 as well. The collection, which contains Silent Hill 2 & 3, will arrive in either late September or October.
- That's not all: Konami announced the contents of the alluded to multiplayer component of Silent Hill: Book of Memories. The multiplayer will be, get this, an isometric (top-down) 4 player experience in which players choose to be either Harry, Maria, or James or they can create their own character. I can't wait to read all the fan hatemail Konami's about to receive.
- Nintendo announced that they will be releasing a new version of the Wii for this coming holiday season that is slimmer. This version, while smaller, nixes Gamecube compatibility but is bundled with a copy of Wii Sports and Wii Party.
- Speaking of Nintendo, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword finally has a release date: November 20th! Just in time for that Thanksgiving 5 day break.
- Microsoft's Dan Ayoub, executive producer at 343 Studios, in speaking to Xbox 360 Achievements.org, was quoted as saying that "I may have no choice" if fans demand an HD remake of Halo 2. This will probably be more dependent on purchases of Halo: CE Aniversary than just fan demand but, in an age in which more and more remakes and re-imaginings are happening every twenty minutes, it is certainly possible.
- Ubisoft released a new trailer for Assassin's Creed Revelations:
- Finally, at Sony's press conference Naughty Dog demonstrated a new level in Uncharted 3:

Oh I'm getting the Silent Hill HD Collection, but god knows who in their right minds thought Silent Hill multiplayer was a good idea.
Uncharted & Assassin's Creed made me the happiest. Can't wait to try them at GAMEfest next month!

Some interesting news came from Gamescom. I liked the communitcation going on in the 1st Battlefield 3 trailer. I'm happy that LoZ: Skyward Sword finally got a release date. Everything is looking good.

Man, Battlefield 3 looks so good. I just wish they would have split-screen co-op and competitive multiplayer. I don't think there's any reason for any developer to not have the option in a game.
On an unrelated note, Assassins Creed is looking very samey. Not a surprise there. Completely uninterested in that franchise as a whole.
I hope Naughty Dog adds more to that level in Uncharted 3; it seems far too fast paced - almost rushed.

Assasins Creed may look ¨samey¨ but whatever... it´s better to play another Call of Duty update, don´t you think?
Anyway... I´m interested on AC:R, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3 and the SIlent Hill HD colection...
Man, i´m running out of money really fast this year...

Silent Hill Collection coming out on the Xbox 360 makes me happy. I never got to finish Silent Hill 3 and I'd like to play Silent Hill 2 again. Great news.

Not really into military warfare multiplayer games like COD and Battlefield, but if I'd by any of them it would probably be Battlefield 3.
Uncharted 3 will be interesting to see on the feed, and I will likely get Assassin's Creed Revelations.
Not finished Brotherhood singe player yet, but I enjoyed it even more than I enjoyed AC2 which I really liked. Hopefully the story and gameplay will be good.

I don´t like the fact that Silent Hill 4 won't be released in the HD Collection. I know that it is a little different than the other ones but it's still a solid game, better than the newer ones in my opinion.
Btw Assassin's Creed with a Dubstep song is pretty awsome :)

Gotta say, Guild Wars 2 had a brilliant showing. A load of new information, including details on PvP. That game is shaping up fantastically!
