In conjunction with Gamespot and this week's San Diego Comic Con, Rocksteady Studios unveiled a new trailer for Batman: Arkham City, this year's highly anticipated follow up to Batman Arkham Asylum. The trailer highlights several important aspects of the sequel including the more open environments, improved combat options, and of course a couple of newly revealed villains. Take a look below to get your first glimpse at the Penguin and Solomon Grundy.

As my excitement builds, I find myself contemplating the possible villains that might play a larger role in Arkham City. After several teases and researching the vast pool of classic characters in the Batman universe, these are three characters that I would love to see when the game hits shelves on October 18:

Black Mask- Hinted at in the very first teaser trailer more than a year ago, the involvement of this lesser known Batman villain is practically already confirmed. Much like Christopher Nolan's take on the Batman universe, I applaud Rocksteady for their willingness to depict the more obscure characters in addition to the obvious choices. Unlike some other choices, The Black Mask offers more than a simple physical road block for the Dark Knight and could open up some real enticing gameplay opportunities. Given the villain's status as a crime lord and his strong hatred that he holds for both Batman and Bruce Wayne, this could also serve as an opportunity for Rocksteady to shine some light on Batman's alter ego and his role in the story.

Mr. Freeze- Since the release of that horrendous movie, "Batman and Robin" I thought Mr. Freeze was a lost character. A villain whose tremendous potential would never get the onscreen portrayal that he deserved. After a brief tease in Arkham Asylum, bringing this character to the forefront in Arkham City seems like a prime opportunity to depict him in the appropriate light. With the character's undying devotion to his dying wife and his unique moral dilemma, he would also make for the most human villain that the game has included thus far.
Clayface- Perhaps one of my most fond memories of the Batman Animated series is the inclusion of Clayface as a major recurring villain. A tortured actor whose obsession with stardom led him to become a terrifying monster with shapeshifting abilities. From a game design standpoint, I don't think I have to tell you the kinds of gameplay scenarios that the team at Rocksteady could craft around this character. Given the game's affinity for the theatrical, this is a villain that would fit right in.

What villains do you hope will make their debut in Rocksteady's popular game franchise? Whoever ends up making an appearance, one thing seems certain: the Arkham series is poised to be ranked among this generations great portrayals of the Dark Knight.

That and Clayface was already in the first game. Pretty much just a cameo though.

I think its safe to say Neither Clayface nor Mr.Freeze will be in this game, the only reason i say this is because in Arkham Asylum you see both of these characters in their cells still (well, mr freezes cell was still in "mint" condition)

Well your in look, recent concept art surfaced featuring an alleyway covered in Ice and its known that one of the multiplayed challenge maps is called "Lair of Black Mask"

So its safe to say that they're in the game. Clayface however is unlikely...

I wouldn't mind seeing Firefly in the game. I can see him resembling "The Fury" from Metal Gear Solid 3. I would love to see how Rocksteady can implement him in the new game.

And just for fun. I would love to see Condiment King make a cameo or an Easter egg appearance in Arkham City.
