Metro 2033 ranks highly among the most engrossing shooters i've played in recent memory. This is not because of fantastic gameplay mechanics but because it capitalizes on the elements that made atmospheric shooters like Bioshock a hit. Taking place in the ruins of human civilization, beneath the streets of a irradiated Moscow, players ventured into the wilds to brave the horrors that awaited them in the wasteland. Thanks to strong fan support and positive word of mouth, sales for the game have warranted a sequel. Releasing in 2012, Metro Last Light seems to be carrying on the vibe of the original while at the same time improving on the look and feel. Could the game have been awarded a bigger budget or development team thanks to the success of the original? I don't know but this trailer sure is intense and easily ranks among the most stylish trailers I've ever seen. Check it out:

Wow, that was really good. I love when they make a stylized trailer using in game footage, it just shows how solid the game is.

    - that looks really cool, with a really good atmosphere like the original
    - the music is based on a magnetic resonance machine sounds when it's working - really good choice btw

There was a lot of stuff that was in the book that wasn't used in the first game, whether or not that kind of stuff in a game I'm not sure. The stuff that interested me the most whilst reading the book was the general new lines of philosophy, politics and religion born out from living underground, hopefully they can touch on these subjects in this game, although they may not for pacing issues.

Metro 2033 had its problems, whilst I enjoyed the 'visions' throughout the game, but for some people I imagine they came out of left field, and were probably pretty confusing. A lot of this game seemed unexplained, a trait of Eastern European games I guess, especially the moral system, and even the ending. Only in hindsight have I properly understand all aspects of this game, and although I love it because of this, I know it shouldn't be that way. I would urge everyone who played Metro 2033 to simply read the wikipedia, read forum posts (read gamefaqs for the moral system) and I would imagine you could enjoy the game more.

I think all this game needs to be great is to simply slow down, and explain their shit. And cut-out the stealth sections, I fucking hated them. And give me some more gas mask filters.

Metro 2033 was great, and this looks like it'll follow suit.

Back to Moscow, ladies and gentlemen. Vodka's on me.

Metro 2033 was a very interesting game but I never got around to buy it. :/ This one probably fixes some of 2033's flaws and gives me a chance to get into this series.

As the only experience I have with the game being watching broadcasts, I can only comment on how awesome the trailer was. Sure, they didn't have any prolonged shots to give us a good look of the sequel but I always prefer stylish gameplay videos with smart, snappy cuts over cinematic trailers. Awesome music definitely a plus.

Metro 2033 was one of last year's most underrated games. I loved every second of it. The engrossing atmosphere, the great sound effect and attention to detail. Sure, there were some gameplay flaws, specially on the consoles, but it never detracted the experience...at least for me. I can't wait for this game and how the game's devs try to tune the gameplay mechanics presented in their last game.

Also, bring back the original Russian voice-over. Playing Metro 2033 with that on made the experience more immersive..
