Now that the PlayStation network is back, gamers who have had their pride (nay their very existence!) turned upside down have begun to wonder if Sony will attempt to make good on their promise to reward Sony fans for their "patience, support and continued loyalty during the service outage."

Today Sony began to make good on that promise by showing us that you don't always get what you pay for. Sometimes you get even more.  Sony is offering all Sony PSN users in North America and Canada two free games from the following list which you will be able to download and keep forever.

    • Dead Nation
    • inFAMOUS
    • LittleBigPlanet
    • Super Stardust HD
    • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you'll also be able to download two of any of the following:

    • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
    • ModNation Racers
    • Pursuit Force
    • Killzone Liberation

And on top of all that, Sony is also offering the following deals:

    • A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.
    • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PlayStation Plus subscribers.
    • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive an additional 60 days of free subscription.
    • Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.
    • Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.
    • To welcome users Home, PlayStation Home will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

It's all quite a bundle, especially when you take into account that PSN is a free service anyway. Sony really could have gotten away with just switching everything back on and going on its merry way. I do wonder, however, how hardcore Ps3 fans, who have probably already purchased the above games, might be feeling about it. One would hope that they would be just happy enough to have their free entertainment returned to them and not try to fall back onto a false sense of entitlement.

But when do hardcore Ps3 fans ever really make a stink about anything? ;-)

I have to say I'm really impressed out how generous they are with the reimbursements.

    lets see..
    -PS3-
    Dead Nation - not interested
inFAMOUS - own it, love it, recommend it
LittleBigPlanet - own it, and 2 is out
Super Stardust HD - not interested
Wipeout HD + Fury - maaaaybe(?)
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty - have it, great little game
    -PSP-
    LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
    ModNation Racers
    Pursuit Force
    Killzone Liberation
nope, not interested in any of the psp games..

it's a pretty worthless list for me, I either have them or am not interested at all, but I'm glad they are offering this for those who might have missed the titles, as you said, they could've just said "shut up, we're free" and walked out the door

I was surprised to see the games they offered for free when the PSN Store comes back on. I've always wanted Infamous. But now I'm stumped on getting either Dead Nation or Super Stardust HD, since I already own Wipeout HD and Little Big Planet.

I'm still thinking about what to get for my PSP. I'm not sure yet. They all look so tempting.

I do appreciate that Sony did this, even though they didn't have to. Not a bad deal for a few weeks of no online games. Well...except for the potential credit card information stolen. lol

Wait, so when are these things going to be available? Because the PSN Store still isn't up (at least for me).

This is perfect for me, I won't be getting any new games for a while, and getting Infamous and Wipeout, along with Modnation Racers, I'll be happy.

That is a pretty good selection of games to chose from. I guess its LBP and Dead Nation for me.

On the sony website it says that this offer will be available for up to thirty days after PSN store comes back up. I think this is very generous and will be getting inFAMOUS and Dead Nation.

I'll be getting InFAMOUS and LBP, I sorta want the PSP games but I checked out the download size and I would need to buy a new memory stick and I'm not sure I want to.

I'm assuming it's 2 free games, either PS3 or PSP, not 2 of each, right?

If you have the games on the list just sell them to a local retailer and get the free one ;)

Well, there goes my dreams of getting Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy Tactics for free. I should maybe get Killzone: Liberation and Pursuit Force since I never played them.

Not, that's two more games then what I did have. I probably won't take advantage of some of the other services (Well maybe the movies and exclusive plus demos (If there are any)) but this is really better then a swift kick in the ass....Well considering we already got kicked in the ass that is.

I'll pick up Dead Nation, since a couple of my friends have been addicted to the game so I might as well play it with them. Not sure what else... I already have LBP, I didn't really like what I played of inFamous... Wipeout HD maybe?

Even if Sony didn't reimburse us in the first place, I'll still be happy returning to multiplayer. I don't care much for the music sub and Home freebies, but since games/movie rentals are up for grabs, how can I resist. On a minor note, it's a bit disappointing for those who already own the free games and can't have an equal advantage as other users.
If credit was offered instead, more customers can be satisfied ... yet Sony's profits might suffer more ... (or in return, earn even higher popularity and revenue?)

I'll take free stuff happily. LBP and whatever else I decide to get (I already own Infamous). It will also be nice to try out Playstation Plus just to see how that service stacks up. I doubt I'll ever pay for Playstation Plus (cancelling Xbox Live was a great feeling for me last fall) but we'll see just how good the service is.

Guess it'll be Wipeout and Dead Nation for me. I don't know what I'll get for PSP. I'm not really interested in any of those offers. LBP? Rather play it on consoles. Modnation? Blah, who cares. Pursuit Force looks kinda butt. Killzone: Liberation, I only like KZ because it's a pretty good shooter with bad-ass space nazis, and this ain't a shooter.

PSN being down was inconvenient but not something they need to give 'reparations' for. Likewise compromising personal information we gave Sony in good faith isnt something they can fix by giving us shit. (regardless of if its cool or numerous free shit)
