The embargo for Capcom's Captivate 2011 event lifted just moments ago and one of the big reveals was Dragon's Dogma for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Dragon's Dogma is an open-world action game set in a fantasy environment. The story revolves around a dragon that has stolen your heart. With your heart as hostage the dragon goads you into finding it and taking it back. Oddly enough your missing heart looks like it will be the least of your worries. The reemergence of the dragon has stirred up all sorts of mythical creatures and now griffins, hydras, harpies, and (you guessed it) dragons are among the few of the monsters that have started infesting the land.

Before setting out you're allowed to choose the gender, physical features, and class of your character. There are three known classes at the moment. The strider is a rogue-like character who is armed with dual daggers and a bow. The fighter is equipped with a sword and shield and acts as the party's tank. The last shown was the mage who operates a little differently from what you might expect. Like Fable's magic system, you have infinite mana and the power of your spells is directly related to how long you charge them. When in town you can enlist NPCs of varying classes into your party to boost your effectiveness in battle. The support these characters offer all to their class. For instance allied mages can imbue your weapons with elemental powers while fighter characters can toss you up into the air to catch flying enemies. Your character also has the ability to climb up onto creatures for a better shot at their weak spots a la Shadow of the Colossus.

Looks interesting for sure. Perhaps this is Capcom's take of a Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Hmm I might just have to keep a lookout for this game. It does remind me of Demon Souls. I hope they give us some more details on this game by E3

You can tell that they still have some animations and lag issues to deal with but besides that this looks great. I love the look of the world and the enemies and glad to see the mage class looks pretty powerful.

Will have my eyes on this for sure.

this, to me, is the ps3/360 version of monster hunter. at least that what it sounds like, just actually with a story. pretty stoked.

Why is everyone comparing it to Monster Hunter? I honestly don't see any similarities other than it's fantasy with big monsters. For all we know this could be nothing like MH.

To me it looks more like Shadow of the Colossus mixed with Elder Scrolls.

Yeah, definitely getting a SotC and Elder Scrolls vibe from this. I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.

Looks pretty cool, not sure how I will pick this up with all of the good games coming out late 2011 and my lack of time around December/January festivities. Probably a Spring 2012 purchase though if it comes out on time.
