We've all been witness to the amazing and horrifying footage coming out of Japan over the weekend, and Japanese game publishers have stepped up to help with the relief efforts. No, Miyamoto is not going to fly in on a magical rainbow, give a wink and a nod, and put everything back the way it was. Even though you know he can. HE CAN!

But they are going to do the next best thing, send money.  Here is the list of companies giving to the relief effort so far. [courtesy of CVG]

Nintendo
Donation of 300 million yen. (Notice)

Namco Bandai
Donation of 100 million yen through parent Bandai Namco Group. The company will also be suspending operations in arcades where power conservation is needed, and will be holding back on events. (Notice)

5pb.
5pb. will slash the price of iOS Memories Off 6 T-Wave from 2,000 to 350 and will donate all sales of the app through March 31.

Sony
Sony Group (not just the games division) is giving a donation of 300 million yen and 30,000 radios. (Notice).

Our readers in the UK can donate to the British Red Cross here.

    300 million yen translates to about 4 million usd. What a slap in the face from companies that are worth billions. Its like you or i donating 10 bucks. When i heard these companies were donating i thought at least hundreds of millions would be in order. Its nice that sony and nintendo felt is was kind to give an entire days gross income to the relief of one of the most horrific scenes in modern history.

    honestly glad to see the gaming companies lending a hand. Does me happy, rather then Kojima's one tweet of "I am alright", showing much of being a douche or not caring in a sense.

    It's really extraordinary the amount of societal responsibility these companies are demonstrating. You have to ask yourself whether corporations of other countries would do the same. Gaius, I agree with Hegs - capitalist institutions have no obligation to do charity, so the ones that do are exemplar in that respect. We can't fault the companies that don't give (without upending all of capitalism and free trade), but we can commend the ones that do, and this will hopefully engender cultural change. I don't believe it's a hypocritical PR stunt, but then again, I'm not Sony's accountant - laypeople really don't have a way to judge.

    @Xalgar, it's a sad, sad world.

    @Xalgar: Dunno if that question will ever be answered, man.

    Big ups to the gaming companies for donating...glad they were able to help in any way that they could.

    Japan is in need, people are in need. People have lost their families, friends, and homes. Food and water are in short or no supply. Making it to the next day is a struggle. Do what you can, don't think you can't do anything. $10 will help give someone some food, water, and help with a warm place to sleep just as well as $10,000. It all adds up to help. Red Cross is there now helping, they will use your money to help Japan and it's people. Again do what you can.
