Sony has announced that the release of MotorStorm Apocalypse is delayed indefinitely, everywhere,  with no new release date given. This includes of course the UK, Japan and North American.  The UK and Japan releases had been previously postponed earlier but PlayStation Blog has added North America to that list today adding, "We will provide more information regarding release timing at a later date."

Considering the severity of the catastrophe in Japan I'm not going to hold my breath for a release date any time soon and though part of me can understand that releasing a game like this right now might be in poor taste, the lover of things MotorStorm in me is monumentally disappointed.  We'll update as we learn more.

Its a damn shame that it has been delayed, even though I was not going to pick it up.

Well at least it gives me time to try Motorstorm before I pick this one up :(

To me, nothing of value was lost (in terms of the game). It may give them time to retweak it a bit or whatnot. Also glad Sony is sympathetic during this crisis time.

Releasing this anytime soon may be in bad taste when you consider what happened in Japan.

All things considered though, the world continues to rotate and time will pass. I have plenty of games to occupy me for a very long time but I still hope I can get my claws into Motorstorm: Apocalypse before the end of this year but we shall see.

Failing that, back to Pacific Rift as I never did finish it, stupid rubber-band Ai haha.

Agreed it would be poor taste to release now, though surprisingly, here in the uk, I've seen more advertising for it in this past week than I have so far since its announce.

Even seeing a promo page in a magazine saying 'I survived Motorstorm Apocalypse' with a picture of a man covered in dust and debris stood next to a beat up car in front of an earthquake destroyed city.

This was in a free magazine that churns out a new issue per week in a few day cycle too, so its not like the advert had been planned for a month or so. strange.

Errrggghh... this sucks. Seems like Motorstorm needs all the publicity it can let, and this move isn't helping.

I understand the sentement, but... I don't think this contributes anything, it'd be more helpful for them to give a percentage of sales to the help operation. All this does is make people who want the game wait.

It's because they're renaming it Motorstorm: Japanese Rift and need to add in random Japanese signs throughout the levels.

Complete sensationalistic horseshit. In other news, Duke Nukem gets canceled and Half Life series is done because of that reactor near Tokyo.

Hundreds of horrific events happen every year, but you never see these kinds of reactions. Did Irem cancel the last Disaster Report game when Indonesia got hit? It was exponentially worse than what happened in Japan.

All this will do is put people out of work. I'm glad Sony can make decisions that effect smaller studios.

    Also, nice wording Joseph.

It sucks, but what can you do? In the wake of whats happened Sony just doesn't want the stigma that would probably be attached to them had they released this on schedule. Can't really blame them, can pretty much guarantee people would view them as "insensitive" and "money hungry" or worse, that they are trying to capitalize on the recent events. By delaying the game along with releasing a public statement explaining their reasoning like this they are pretty much covering their asses on all grounds,

Delayed a couple months? Sure. Indefinitely? No. Disasters happen all the time. I mean come on, only the north eastern side of Japan is in the shit and just about everywhere else is fine. Tokyo is moving on like nothing happened.

Oh well, at least they might spend more time on the game to make it better.

What happened to the games industry that used to take refuge in audacity? It's like book burning, except the public doesn't have to do anything. No good will come of this.

How dare they try and release a game involving natural disasters after one just occured! Just because they've been working on it for probably a year or so and had no prior knowledge of the earthquake in Japan doesn't mean their off the hook! Yesterday I heard someone released a game where you shoot people, and just a mere...few hours after a firefight in Afghanistan! Why is the world so mean?! I need a hug! And my bottle?! WHERE'S MY BOTTLE?! WHAAA! WHAAAHAHA!!!

If they are planning on pulling it off the shelves I'd import it why you can guys.

Oh the Irony of Importing something out of Australia.
