CVG is reporting that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released in Europe on August 26 and North America on August 23rd for the PC, Xbox 360 and Ps3.

Human Revolution is one of those games which is on my radar but that I'm trying to keep my excitement level down to a minimum for.  It has everything I love: a sci-fi setting, good story, great visuals, and gadgets (!!), but I'm so afraid they are going to mess it up that I'm finding myself putting the bar very, very low for this one. Of course, I have no evidence to suggest they will. It's just that Deus Ex was such a great game when it was released, such a trend-setting game, that I fear part of its appeal was contextual. And for Human Revolution to wow us, or at least reach the same pedestal as the original, it's going to have to do something extraordinary.

And I'm not talking just about the opportunity to watch Derek Zoolander kicking some ass.

Thinking about it, Deus Ex Human Revolution really doesn't need to be affiliated with the Deus Ex series, Human Revolution is a prequel that takes place decades before the first Deus Ex. Besides central themes and elements, there isn't really much linking Human Revolution to the first Deus Ex.

Which leads me to believe that Eidos is using the Deus Ex name to build up hype, that they've been designing Human Revolution as its own IP and then tacked on the Deus Ex name. I mean, if you just called the game Human Revolution, almost no one would be thinking about the Deus Ex series while they're playing the game.

I really need to play the original... Goodbye social life and school grades, this game has had too much praise for it to remain sitting with me on steam, untouched.
