Last announced in 2007, Dead Island promised an open world first person zombie experience. After years of silence Techland, the developer of western themed shooter Call of Juarez, has finally decided to show us that Dead Island is still alive and kicking. The new trailer, despite showing zero gameplay, is both impressive and disturbing.

The combination of the soothing music with the terror and violence was very interesting.
    A very strong trailer.

I kind of thought of Lost, thanks to the music in the trailer.

Interesting and a game I really want to see more of but where is the time and budget for Deepsilver to work on this and the new Call of Juarez game, I cant see them having the staff to handle multiple projects but I do have faith in Deepsilver and I hope if this game comes out it will be the success they need.

How wrong was I about this game...I thought this was going to be quirk/campy game. One of the better trailers I've seen in years. The amount of emotion I felt from this is more than I have for whole games to come out in months.

    I am speechless.

I usually don't get excited over non-gameplay trailers of games that aren't from proven franchises, but man....I really need to play this game!

What I see from this trailer is the large potential to create a truly gripping and emotional story and to tie it onto a genre which would not normally possess such a plot.. I just hope that they keep this in mind, if so, then this game could be a day one buy for me.

That was.... Beautiful... I am rarely intrigued by zombies. It takes something with story like the Walking Dead, or something that I know is hilarious like Shaun of the Dead or RDR Undead Nightmare. This game looks, if handled properly, could have one of the most moving and emotional stories of any zombie game to date. If the trailer, with it's emotional music, evocative imagery, and exotic locale is any indication, we may have a great game on our hands. Of course, only time will tell, but I for one hope it will be done well.

Sorry for this copy and paste from the forums -

Wow powerful and disturbing trailer. This completely came out of the blue, I was interested in it last time I heard anything about it, but I presumed that the game had been killed off. This really struck a chord with me, coming off the trailer I expect a deep and emotional story.

I can't wait to see some gameplay! I know a lot of people make the joke about 'please no more zombie games', but really at the moment there are only 2 big IPs (Left4dead and Dead Rising) the rest are usually just tack-on modes. So it would be nice to see this game becoming a different and big zombie IP.

Although I hardly ever play zombie games. I would not mind seeing how this plays out. I love the strong atmospheric emotion being brought out to see. Cause it makes you think instead of mindless killing and combos. That you really do worry for your loved ones. And maybe help make a connection between the care you feel for your family members here to the characters in the game. You can clearly see there was a connection, And now how painful its going to be when the tension is gone and emotions run fast. Plus very artistic I like that. Especially since how much time was put into this.

The trailer is beautiful, but other than zombies, I know next to nothing about this game. It seems to be set in the near future, but do who do we play as? do we play as the father? Or do we play as some other person who has nothing to do with this family? In the end though, i guess you can say it was a successful trailer because it did leave me entertained until the end and it did leave me intrigued.

This is a complete 180 from the sort of theme the trailer from '07 was going for. Despite the lack of gameplay color me 'very interested'.

    OH MY HOLY FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!

    Ahem... -_-

Pardon my excitement. It's just that, for the last 7 years, I've always dreamed of an open world zombie game that truly captures the horrors and emotions of what might be a real one.

I've never been so excited for a game in my entire life. I know this will be the experience I always dreamed of. An intense, horrifying, disturbing, yet emotionally brutal game that delves into the human psyche during times of psyche.

Fuck, I feel like I'm going to cry now. This game is set to be awesome, I just fucking know it.

I have all my unmeasurable faith in it.

Damn this looks amazing. I remember way back when people thought this was the sequel to Dead Rising. It's interesting seeing those old trailers and gameplay videos from 2007, compared to the serious tone it's taken now.

While i do love this trailer the only thing that bothers me is that in the first couple seconds you see blood and what looks like a bite mark on the neck on the daughter when the trailer shows her being bitten on the leg. Not an important thing but I just found it odd.

Wow. Now, if a zombie game actually has me so emotionally attached that in-game I start debating whether it's worth going on any further or just giving up because I've lost/am losing everything that's one thing. (notice I put "I" instead of "the character". I'm already attached. Great job, trailer) However, if the game is so gritty and harsh and heated that I begin to experience actual fear and dread... then this game will truly be special.

i... dont know how to feel. on one hand im a huge fan of these types of trailers, but the fact that i can say 'these types of trailers' is what makes me feel worse towards it. maybe im just being cynical, but it all seems way too cliche, in a way. deaths of children always arouse strong feelings in the viewers, so its basically a shock tactic. and contrast of horrific imagery with a calm song has been done numerous times, the gears of war trailer with mad world being one of the probably most well known ones. the only thing i cant think of any other examples for off the top of my head is the backwards slow mo, so there you go. it did get me excited nonetheless though, and i hope the game is good.

Hopefully the actual gameplay will garner as much praise as it's trailer is.
This will most likely be the best game trailer I'll see all year if not one of the best.
I think the main message that the trailer is conveying is that behind every death there's a story. Death isn't just some trivial matter, that corpse has a tale behind it and was a living human being. When the clip first starts and we see the girl's corpse, we're just like "Aw a dead girl" or "Dead body yea yea", but then as the clip progresses we see more and more of the girl's story unfold.
By the end of it all that death has significance to us now that we know the events up to her death.
I dunno, it just seems like it's trying to portray dying as a much more meaningful and serious matter than a game like Left 4 dead would

Wow, that was beautiful. It seems like this game is gonna bring out the true horror, emotion, and feeling hopelessness that would occur once a zombie outbreak happens. I can't believe I've never thought of this before, but a zombie game that does something like this is an amazing idea. Also if the game follows the family in the trailer then this game may give that feeling of having to protect your loved one(s) that Dead Rising 2 just didn't do right.
