Everything comes from somewhere. Even our most beloved gaming juggernauts go through an early awkward phase. Their they are, feet too big, bad skin, big glasses. Bubbling through life and failing miserably with every girl or guy they meet. Then, one day, something happens.  They leave alpha, move to beta and then get hot go gold.

DOOM is no exception. These videos show DOOM as it went through its various awkward stages in development and turned into the game we know and love today.  So see kids, that nasally geek you turned down for prom just might be the next Brad Pitt or Milla Jovovich. The lesson is simple. It's OK to fuck geeks.

Your gonna pre-order an alpha build of a game that was released over 15 years ago?

There's a book about the development of Doom called "Masters of Doom". I haven't read it, but it's supposed to be a really good read.

The first HUD in the beginning was terrible. What a change to what we have now, eh?

I just recently bough the original Doom on XBL and played it for the first time. Pretty cool stuff, I can definitely see its appeal.
