I came across this picture on the internet. I think it's a pretty old picture but damn it made me laugh. Man I miss me some Animal Crossing. Nintendo needs to do something fresh with that franchise. They should take the same basic concept/design and give it a makeover. They could also streamline some of the game play and menus. And of course, it's obvious they need to have some substantial online component.

Imagine having like a 20 person town online that players/residents could go in and out whenever they wanted. Running into someone in town would actually be like running into them. Going home would really be like getting away from the town. But make up different special occasions because I can't miss real ones. My family gets mad.

Damn, I loved Animal Crossing when it came out and I wish they'd do something more with it.

I really wish they would do what you said with a persistent town where friends can live in. That would be really fun. But it's Nintendo, so hoping for innovation in the online department is very wishful thinking.

Haha, I remember seeing that picture a while back.

I love that second paragraph so much, David. They really should do that in an Animal Crossing game. And you could like lock the door to your house when you want to just chill inside for a while, or if you go afk inside your house. 20 people living in a larger town and being able to turn on the game, and see the other players who live in your town as well as the animal residents going about their day would be such a casual and fun experience. Overall I want to see a new Animal Crossing that is much, much more like the original for the Gamecube. With the return of silly little events like the Exercise Day (or was it Week?), and all the festivals and whatnot. I still have the original Animal Crossing, but my old Gamecube won't read the disc anymore..

Yeah, a persistent online town with friends would be fun, but only if I could snap and brutally murder all of my friends in their house with my golden axe.

Every game needs a PVP component, right?

yeah, i found that animal crossing got boring to me after a while because you really couldn't do much except fish, catch bugs, grow stuff, sell stuff, buy furniture. i really wish they would add a more minecrafty element like being able to build your house. it's also be cool if you could have vehicles and if there were big towns like david said.

I completely agree with you, David. I fucking loved Animal Crossing on the Gamecube. As you said, Nintendo needs to do something for the series to keep it fresh.

I am probably one of the longest-term animal crossing players on the planet (top 50 without a doubt in terms of playtime) outside the hardcore day 1 japanese players on the N64. I have been into AC since well before day one on the gamecube. Played the crap outta that one, my town on the DS one has probably been "open" for about 2-3 years combined time (yes, 24H/day, 365 days/yr)(it's also open right now for whoever wants to come but I am not playing it) and after the Wii one sucked ass cause it brought nothing new multiplayerwise, I realized all i care about is them improving multiplayer. Because of the lack of faith I have in them fixing this upcoming one on the 3DS, I will not be buying a 3DS. That and i'm left-handed and we will get fucked regardless cause I love fps's on the DS. And also I'm 21 and need to move on, but I am grateful for the friends I made on that game and who I still talk to.

As odd as it feels to say it, that game really had a pretty big impact on my life because of the friends it gave me.

I would be too scared of Resitii destroying my walkway to go outside if my life was like animal crossing

    You are absolutely right, Dave.
I think they really should bring Animal Crossing back for sure. I loved the style on the Gamecube, not the whole rotating world concept they brought to the Wii and DS.

I've always wanted to see them make a game where you aren't restricted to where you can place your housing, and an online capability would really make it seem like a life simulator. I would totally get back into it if they made it :)

Animal Crossing on GCN was amazing, as was ACWW. I actually no longer have a DS but I kept my ACWW cartridge. It's one of those games you hold close to your heart.
