Yes that's correct, hack and slash adventure game Nighty-Nine Nights is getting the MMO treatment.   It's being developed by Q Entertainment and UserJoy Technology as a free-to-play, PC MMO to be released at a yet unspecified time.

Some highlights include a persistant multiple job types, team play and an item-based transaction economy. Also Tatsuhiko Kanaoka, who worked on the King of Fighters series, will be working on the character designs, monster designs and the main illustrations for the new game.

I'm of the firm belief that the MMO market is an egregiously top heavy market where only a large few have a chance to make it long term. However, I'm really interested to see how something like Nighty-Nine Nights, with it's large scale battles and sheer number of units onscreen, will handle itself in the MMO setting.

I believe there was also a free-to-play Dynasty Warriors game released in a similar fashion not too long ago. I haven't tried it myself, but this seems pretty interesting. Maybe this style of MMO can carve its own niche? I'm not sure, I've never been too big of a fan of these types of games, but one with MMO capabilities might be pretty fun. Smacking around hundreds of armored enemies is a lot more fun with friends.

Hmmmm, I really hope this ends up being as good as I imagine it to be.

They're really pushing MMO's. Honest to kitten, I don't know why, but even Kingdom Under Fire 2 is going to have a dedicated MMO multiplayer. It's already been green-lighted for the PS3, but really..? I don't understand half of the stuff going on these days.

At least they're aiming this in the right direction.. aka, the PC.
