Major Nelson, of  Major Nelson fame, just announced a new program on his blog which gives Microsoft points to XBox Live members  for signing up, renewing, purchasing games and activating Netflix.  The program is free and will end June 2011 but the rewards aren't that much.  Here they are, in Microsoft Points.

Renew 1 Month Xbox Live Gold: 10 (For Gold members)
Renew 3 Month Xbox Live Gold: 30 (For Gold members)
Renew 12 Month Xbox Live Gold: 200 (For Gold members)
Purchase or Renew Xbox Live Gold Family Pack: 400
Purchase or Renew 1st Xbox Live Gold: 100
Make your 1st purchase on the Marketplace: 100
Purchase select Marketplace content: Varies
Activate and use Netflix: 100
Take a quick survey each month: 20
Participate in exclusive promotions: Varies

It seems that those who will have the most gain from this are people who are just about to purchase a system; many of these prizes only apply for the first time use (Activating Netflix, making a purchase) and are not retroactively awarded.

Anyways, few points are still free points, and points are always points..

Sign up for the program here: Xbox Live Rewards

Sounds PRETTY much exactly the same as the PSN rewards program, which came before. Still see NO incentive to subscribe to Xbox Live, I can definitely afford paying it, but I don't like supporting the service, it's wrong to me.

Well for this, at least you really dont have to pay for this kind of stuff. Its like "Since we're increasing the pay for xbox live each month, here's a little treat for sticking with us. Free points!". Ehh greed these days

This might be a bit off-topic but, Jesus Christ, Xbox does not have a capital B in it! I don't know why I care, but I irks me so much, and I see it everywhere.

God I hate Microsoft. Xbox live not being free is probably one of the biggest blights on the advancement of video games. It all started with paying for live that gave way to crap like DLC and any other way a company can squeeze money from gamers.
And this little "rewards" system is just a straight up joke. Points are points, but considering that in order to earn most of the good chunks, you'd already be paying a large wad of cash on crap like subscription renewal, this only excites the most fan boy-ish of the Microsoft fanboys.
I use to be in that vortex of money wasting called xbox live, but no more.

So basically it's like the Playstation Rewards Program except with the XBL Rewards you get less and you have to pay first in order to get something out of it.
