Are you tired of motion control already? As all those mediocre scores for the Kinect begin to bolster your original belief's don't think for one moment that the entire thing is nothing more than a passing, tragic, sinking ship in the night. If Capcom's European boss, and ex-head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has anything to say about it, expect motion control to be the new norm.

"I think [motion control is] the preamble to what might come in the next static consoles. I don't know when they will arrive. That different way of controlling a game, either with your hand and feet or your voice, or even maybe just your eyes..." he said.

"I think it will extend the life of the static consoles a little bit. But it will roll into - there's so much investment in those systems, they'll have to use it for the next static consoles as well. Or a modification. They'll learn a lot from this."
Surely neither Microsoft or Playstation are have said a word about the next generation of consoles, even though MS has repeatedly stated that kinect was their version of the next generation. So get on board everyone! Flailing wildly and cheap mini-games is the FUTURE!

You mean this shit will actually stay around and be influential to how the next gen is formed?

    Thats.... terrifying.

THIS is the reason I hate Kinect. THIS is the reason I was worried by its mere existence. Its attemping to take my controller and chuck it out the window! Sure its fun for maybe five freaking seconds but you can't make a serious game with this thing. Only stupid Mini games. The only semi-serious game (Milo) was never a game but is a game but not anymore.

    My God.

I can't believe they don't realize that the CONTROLLER is the advanced method of playing video games. = = So many limitations if you try to stick to motion controls completely.

I was really hoping this wasn't going to happen... at the same time I'm kinda glad I don't have to worry about being behind on the newest console for a while.

Did anyone actually think that this wouldn't be the case? Its just a logical presumption to make. Now, I can definitely at this moment in time say I'm NOT excited in the least bit for Kinect carrying on into the future, I just see no promise in it whatsoever. And yes, its perfectably reasonable to be so pessimistic about Kinect and how it will influence Microsoft in the future by judging it by its LAUNCH games.

As for Playstation Move however, my excitement is definitely leaps and bounds ahead of what I feel for with Kinect. Which isn't saying much.....but still. I definitely see at least some promise in how Playstation Move can grow and be expanded upon further along the road. We've already seen some nice tech and showcases in future implementations for it, so why not?

But none of it will matter when Nintendo do something radically different to the competition, yet again. Then history will just repeat itself from there on out. And for people on other sites bitching about how this means the end of the traditional handheld controllers we have grown accustomed to for all our lives, just don't be so darn silly, they aren't going anywhere.

It'l be a sad, sad day when the only games you can play are the ones that you need to get up off your ass to play. I really, REALLY don't want that to be the case. Making a video game without the controller, and instead replacing the controller with yourself, is basically exercise. Why would I want to actually jump in the air for my character to do the same on-screen when I could just press a button? Makes no GODDAMN sense.

Never have had any interest in any motion control in gaming, there's no reason for me to think that I ever will either.

I dont like where the game industry is heading. Why would people spend 50 million dollars to make a game that sells 1 million copies when they can spend 100,000 and sell 5 million copies? 15 years ago the Kinect would be next to Simon and Bop It in KB Toy Store and thats where it still belongs. When I think about how many quality games Microsoft could have funded with the money they spent on Kinect (advertising, games etc) it literally makes me sick to my stomach.

that idea was thrown into circulation around the time of the wii's birth: people think controllers will be defuncto by the next generation, and that my friends is madness

No reason to worry there are so many popular genres that just wont adapt well to motion controls, I see no reason that they would completely abandon the controller these companies know what is at stake if they did so.

All this says to me is that its just going to take longer for augmented reality to show up in a more interactive form. Which makes me sad.

There's a good way and a bad way to implement motion control such as the Kinect and the Move, the problem is that was not the intention of these two devices, other than trying to dip into the Wii's audience. They promised so much but offered so little and it's a shame because it probably does have great potential but developers just want the quick buck and make crappy titles and mini game collections, and not even good ones either. Do see in movies where people play video games in futuristic cities with only their bodies? Do you know why it works? Not because it's the future, it's because they made it work. You always see the controls meet the actions spot on and make games that look appealing or at least entertaining in some way. Again, these devices are nothing more than to steal some of Wii's market for gamers who probably won't take it seriously to begin with. This really is a step forward, a step forward off a cliff, but only if the companies continue to not care about the hardware. I'm sure if they really made the Kinect work and make it fun, there'll certainly be more people buying this thing. Why does everyone forget the policy of having to spend time and money to make money?

The thing is, Nintendo already moved forward from this stupid fad and went on to the 3D gimmick. Microsoft and Sony continue living in the past, which is stupid because the casual market doesn't even stick around for long. I've heard multiple times from multiple people that they don't touch their Wii anymore after they fulfilled their wish of playing Wii sports once.

God, Wouldn't it be amazing if this was all Nintendo's plan to get ahead of its competition? Like, if the Wii was never supposed to sell well, but it was supposed to get Microsoft and Sony worried about the casual gamers. And when the real gamers give up on the so called "hardcore systems", Nintendo catches them on the rebound. Bait and switch.
