Oh, Milo. You were the one game... errr... boy that I didn't hysterically mock during the unveiling of the Natal at E3 2009. But you weren't actually real -- just a silly pre-recorded video. I wanted to see the real boy! Well in the video below, Peter Molyneaux finally demonstrates what it's like to interact with a real living virtual boy. And apparently it's a lot like playing a shitty mini game collection.

Remember when new generations of game consoles meant we would get prettier versions of the games we already loved? It may have seemed shallow, but maybe it wasn't so bad. Shallow is certainly better than stupid.

Good to see Peter Molyneaux's voice is still as full as pretentiousness as ever. Also this still feels like it'd be creepy to play.

Anyone else getting the urge to pass on this? Jesus...if you are even considering getting this...it better be for the lulz..actually no...i resent that statement: do NOT feed the Gaming Troll that is Peter Molyneux!

Jiminy Cricket: the Game? Again I think this, like Motion Controls and Kinect in general are just baby steps to combining all the separate elements into something much bigger and much better. This game looks like it could tug at the heartstrings a bit if you're the right sort. But then again, it could also replace real life with a virtual one. Scary.

Wow...this looks incredibly boring. I mean, does this look like fun or entertainment to anyone? It seems more like a chore having to pick up and point out random shit and "talk" to Milo.

You should definitely watch the last Engadget Show with Peter Molyenaux, he talked a lot about Fable III on it. The host kept hinting at how fucking creepy Milo was ( he ended up calling Molyneaux a sick, sick man)

So we're the imaginary childs imaginary friend? God, can we turn him into a sociopathic murder? That would be awesome. We could tell him to kill his teacher, and then he'll blame us, and they'll send him to a mental asylum, it would all be great fun lol.

Oh god, Peter Molyneaux. Why do they keep letting him out of doors?

It started out sort of interesting...and then you have to spot the snails for ten points! Oh boy! It's still interesting, but in more of an odd way.
It's like "Parenthood: The Game." And maybe it's because I'm a woman, but I actually do feel this almost primal urge to nurture this virtual boy. But it's still all a little creepy.

Am I the only person who thinks that looked pretty awesome? I might consider getting Kinect after seeing just how cool the control is. Also can't wait to see how horribly this game is abused, lol.

Squish that snail, Milo. Because i'm a girl, and snails are icky.

I didn't care about Not Jason before so why should I start now?

Also is it just me or does Mollyneaux like to give off an air that he is too good for video games? Calling E3 a computer conference and such, and also talking up his games to the point where he himself thinks they're miracles of human accomplishment (despite general meh receptions). I don't have anything against him personally (don't know the guy so will not judge) but maybe if he excepted that he is just a game designer and not a miracle worker then he could make something that manages to entertain for long periods of time.

I agree with ben here. It still shows a lot more potential than a turn of the mill mini game collection. Sure, it seems rather drab now and maybe simple, which is how the game was supposed to start out as, which was pointed out with calm bedtime tale voice of Molyneaux, but i'm interested to see how much more complicated and "livelier" it'll get with the ever expanding database as people use it. ( well IF people use it when it comes out)

I really don't understand this. The guy comes up to the audience and says he's making something much more than a game. then turns around for no reason and makes a "game" as in you randomly get points and do all these tedious mini games. I could understand playing chess with him but the points and using a bubble to find snails? what's with the bubble? If that was the only way to fix trying to find snails then don't have any freaking snails. And the man said the snails will be butterflys for girls. Are women going to help Milo find dead butterflys laying under a rock? This demo answered some questions, but raised a hell of a lot more....

Milo has spilt gravy on the new carpet. Talk to him!

"What the **** is wrong with you?! Are you a ****ing amputee? No? Then learn to hold your food you little p***y and stop crying like a b***h! Milo, just get out. Lick the gravy off the carpet and man up, or I'll crap all over your face and piss in your ear."

Geez, I wonder what'd happen after all that?

At this point, Milo looks like a next-gen Tamagotchi. That's not necessarily a horrible thing, but the concept needs to be fleshed out significantly to have any lasting appeal. One thing Molyneux has traditionally been good at is getting players emotionally invested in the characters he places in our charge. Black & White, while not a great game by any means, did make you feel connected to the creature that you “raised” from adolescence. If a person can make that leap from detached player to emotionally involved participant, then even a relatively uninteresting gameplay experience can become something more meaningful (e.g., Heavy Rain).

As an aside, if I'm going to invest any time with Milo, I don't want him to "learn" anything from other people. I don't want Milo to become some bedraggled, subhuman monster with his dick hanging out of his pants calling me a "homo." If I wanted to see that, I'd go to the mall.

Hey might as well give this a rent since I'm buying dance central and child of eden. I'm sure some of you guys have the same curious questions on your minds.

Ive learned to ignore anything that Peter says, he acts like everytime he makes a game its going to completely change gaming as we know it, after the complete failure that was "Fable 2", i will never buy anything that hes had anything to do with, Kinect is the dumbest thing ive seen since paranormal activity

I'm beginning to think that the only reason you people don't like this game, is that you don't like the Genre. If it does most of what they're tooting that it does, then it's one of the most involved Raising Sims I've seen. But that's not the only thing that irks me...

Why is it that half of you can't discuss Milo without making any mention of a Pedophile? And Why are you expecting Microsoft to pull the Holy Grail of A.I. out of their ass? This is a Video Game Sans Controller, NOT SHODAN. Just because Milo has no aspirations for world domination is Not a reason to bash it.

As for pointing out the snails, and skipping rocks? What Else is an 11 year old child supposed to do with 2 overbearing parents, no PS3, and a free afternoon? The Appeal isn't in playing the minigames, It's in tricking yourself into thinking you've forged a human relationship with a machine. It's not perfect, I'm not saying that it's even close, but it's a step in the right direction.

the one thing i fine very interesting about this game for the kinect is your ability to change them. Like when he squished the snail, that changed Milo somehow. Maybe if you talk to Milo differently as well, he will change. Like isntead of being all nice about his parents yelling at him, you could, be like... "get over it, there just out to get you!" and Milo would turn out to be some Nazi... just saying

The tech behind this is very interesting. Much like the Kinet itself. From a psychological point of view, being able to influence how a character in a game is great, and been done before. Now, it's just done in a different way. Interesting. And this character that you are helping to forge can now interact with you, the player, in a more realistic way. Also interesting. How this will translate into a real games as the industry currently knows it, is yet to be seen. Heavy Rain came to my mind much like it did many others. I played Heavy Rain, and for the most part enjoyed it. I still found it incredibly flawed though. And after the newness wore off, it got to be infuriating at times. I feel that this tech, much like the tech that Heavy Rain was demonstrating, is very interesting, but is lacking polish, and a proper placement in a game that the industry is currently favoring. A game that comes to mind that might benefit from this kind of technology is a game like Black and White. I'm sure there are others that would properly use the ability to interact with a character in this way properly.

Bottom line, this is great technology that is still in the beginning stages. My hopes are that it is able to be integrated in a meaningful and useful way. Not just slapped into some game.
