A new DLC pack for Dragon Age: Origins has been announced today. "Witch Hunt" will cost you 7 dollars and will certainly destroy one of Bioware's finest characters. Yep, 7 dollars not only buys you the "ending" to Dragon Age, but it also ruins it! It seems Bioware wants to alienate all fans of Dragon Age before the release of Dragon Effect.

"Never follow me." With these words, Morrigan vanished into the shadows. Her plans and her whereabouts have remained a mystery... until now.

UUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

I'm so fucking sick of this DLC piecemeal bullshit. I spent 60 dollars on Dragon Age: Origins, 40 dollars on the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening expansion, 5 dollars on the Return to Ostagar DLC, and 7 dollars on the Leliana's Song DLC. I even passed on two other 5 dollar DLC packs. So 112 dollars later? I still have to spend another 7 dollars for the ending to Dragon Age: Origins? WHAT THE FUCK!? The story of the game is being RUINED with this bullshit.

I know I don't have to buy this DLC pack, but this really isn't about the money. It's about Bioware presenting a story in the worst possible way. The best fucking part about the ending of Dragon Age was the mystery behind Morrigan and her proposition. It had players make the biggest decision in the game, with the highest stakes, and then forces players to live on with the likelihood that they might never know the consequences. It was a great way to end the story for a great character. Now why the fuck would i want the mystery ruined by a small dlc pack? If they were ever going to return to this character, it should have been the significant focus of a sequel.

This disgusting trend is destroying Bioware's great game legacy. Want to know who Darth Revan really is? Find out in this 7 dollar DLC pack!!! Would Knights of the Old Republic still be beloved?

Take Christopher Nolan's Inception for example. What if, a year after release, they started showing a new 15 segment for Inception in movie theaters? For 2 dollars you can find out what really happens to Leonardo DiCaprio at the end of the movie! There is a reason alternate endings are relegated to shitty DVD extras no one ever watches.

You have failed me Bioware. I'll stick with A Song of Ice and Fire for my fantasy needs.

It's amazing how DLC packs are going to potentially ruin two of my favorite Bioware characters. Don't forget, Liara's story will also become trivialized with another stupid add on for Mass Effect 2. So much more these two lovely ladies having significant roles in the sequels.

I agree with this bullshit DLC that developers are releasing that ruin the initial experience of the game. Bioware is also doing the same thing with ME2 and releasing a Shadow Broker DLC pack which tells the story of how Liara is connected with the Shadow Broker. I liked that in ME2 it remained somewhat of a mystery and we don't know too much. It adds to the mystery of the Shadow Broker and Liara. Now with this DLC, it might ruin the Shadow Broker character and/or Liara just like you feel the new DLC pack for DA:O will do for Morrigan.

Ahhh the wonders of PC gaming. I can just grab both the ME2 and DA:O DLCs from the internet for free. I didn't want to do that and I haven't done it this far but this BS just deserves it. But I'll probably be the lazy normal duder that I am and not bother with this shit. The ending was way better with the mystery and IMO it can stay a myster.

Don't buy it. I didn't buy Prince of Persia 2008's bullshit DLC ending and I ruined it for myself by watching it on youtube. I lucked out that they may never make a sequel (although another PoP in the vein of 2008 would be awesome) unlike you who will be playing Dragon Effect which will probably play off this crappy ending.

I feel that the DLC does seem to segment and dilute the narrative. Some of it can be interesting but for the most part it is just random little side quests that are fairly forgettable.

I feel it may be too soon to answer the questions regarding Morrigan, the mystery made it more compelling. However for the most part the choice will have to be relegated to a minor side quest, reference or in this case DLC as it would otherwise alienate people. If the focus of an entire dragon age game were about what Morrigan had done and the results of the ritual, while it would be interesting, for those who had chosen not to do that option it would leave them without the core of the narrative.

It is probably something they could do with leaving alone and remaining a mystery. Though they had stated that particular choice could not play a major role in a sequel as it would either need to force a canonical storyline and invalidate player choices or leave people alienated missing out on the core storyline.

Why release 100% of a game and make only 60 bucks when you can do the same for 50% of the game!

Therefore, if my math serves me correctly, we can earn $120 per full game!

It'll only go downhill from here Brad.

I can understand your complaint about the Dragon Age DLC but I'm sure Liara will be handled fine. This DLC will just wrap up her little distraction and she'll be there in a much bigger capacity for Mass Effect 3.

Really Bioware? If you wanted to tell us what happened to Morrigan, you should have made it a part of Dragon Age 2. With all this DLC bullshit Bioware is putting out, Im starting to lose my faith in them. All they care about is making money and its ruining their own games.

I became aware of Biowares sneaky sales promoting when I found an in game sales man who was advertising the Golem DLC.

He was actually offering a quest that I had to download DLC to use.

I was amazed at this level of advertisement in a game. But it did make clear the direction it was taking.

Bioware are shattering all my illusions.

I was glad to see Bioware release an expansion pack, and even some of the dlc choices were neat ideas, but seriously, is this what one of biggest storylines, one of the biggest choices, comes down to a tiny and hastened cash grab.

When this particular event in the game occurred, it was quite an amazing character and story experience and the thing is I hoped that this storyline would have been taken up in a future Dragon Age (well unless it is to much of a Dragon Effect) or be kept as a mystery and hear about rumors from future lure.

I hope Bioware are careful, it seems that after a good release and stream of support, they may be turning the series into a different product compared to the one we played and loved.

That's not the point, Shotokanguy. Up until now, DLC had been reserved for "extras." Shit that didn't matter, basically. I don't give a crap about Warden's Keep, or any of the armor upgrades, or those two DLC characters in ME2 who, as far as I'm concerned, don't exist.

But now they're actually starting to segment the main games. The Shadow Broker plot should have been a part of ME2, or how you re-recruit Liara in ME3. This is PIVOTAL to her character, and gives a resolution to her conflict which completely alters her storyline and lore.

I haven't even finished Dragon Age yet, because I've been an off-and-on gamer for the past couple of years, and this news post almost threatens my willingness to even finish it. This is just absolutely disgusting, especially when I share Brad's opinion that Morrigan was the most interesting character in this game. I have a basic understanding of what happens at the end of Dragon Age, so I know that this DLC is going to completely ruin her story.

I'm just one guy, so my voice doesn't count, but I'm at least speaking in a way they will hear me: With my wallet. I have never bought DLC content, and I never will. And as far as I'm concerned, this is all non-canon. Anyone who tries to tell me otherwise, even the game developers, will be ignored. And if it comes to the point where I have to wait for DLC content to get the full main-story, I will be done with their products.

And I know this term is tossed around a lot in the gaming industry, but I think this is the best example of starting down a "slippery slope" for Bioware. I hope they catch themselves before it's too late.

FPDragoon, I haven't even played Dragon Age and I agree that making this DLC is a bad idea, but how can we say the same about the Shadow Broker DLC? The fact is it ISN'T a hugely important plot point. There will be people who don't buy it and their story will likely be just fine without it. Can't say the same for this, BioWare is even advertising it as an ending to the game.

I'm interested about what happened to Morrigan, especially after the broken up-romance ending. but this is horseshit. Reeks Bobby fucking Kotick all over it, though it isn't Activision this time. Pathetic how they try to suck every dollar out of a game until they ruin it, somewhat like fucking a corpse.

I knew this would happen. Bioware made it pretty clear that they wanted to go a different route with the "Dragon Age 2" story, but then all the nerds on the message boards started boo-hoo'ing "but what about my precious Morrigan!??!?!" Well here ya go. $7 to see your imaginary girlfriend again.

Don't believe me? Go read the responses at Kotaku,Gamefaqs,or the Bioware boards. Not even a fraction of the outrage,in fact some of them are down right giddy over this news.

P.S.-Anyone still trying to convince themselves that Dragon Age 2 will be "Mass Effect with swords" would do well to do some research, read some hands-on impressions, rather than being reactionary, pessimistic, and jumping to conclusions.

I don't think presenting the story in this way is the best either.

Regarding Morrigan and her story, it was stated in this month's Game Informer that they weren't done with Morrigan's story. Insinuating that it is going to be a large part of the second Dragon Age game. Now, whether or not they were stating this matter in relation to this DLC pack, or the second game itself, I am not sure. But her story and it's progress is mentioned in the interview, however brief.

I can't seem to find the entire article online, otherwise I'd link it. However, if anyone is interested in exactly what is said, I will pull out my copy and type it up.

This dlc is stuff that ought to be in the game itself. They're half-assing stories so that they can continue to charge more money for things. And I guarantee that after the Liara dlc becomes a hit, they'll make a Virmire survivor dlc. People will pay for this because they had such a lackluster carryover of their original romance into the second game. The same applies to Leliana and Morrigan. People want more, so they'll make something up if they think it can sell.

It's psychology, pure and simple. They charge a negligible amount for little goodies, such as armor and pistols and weapons. People get used to buying this stuff and eventually they bump the price up for the dlc items. The customers are rats in a Skinner box.

Really? Arguably the most important decision in the first game, is going to have it's outcome resolved (even though nobody asked for it to be) in a little piddly shit DLC? How soul crushingly disappointing.

^^^So wait,is your argument that they planned this all along ("they're half-assing stories so that they can continue to charge money for things") or that they're writing shitty fanfiction to keep the Morrigan/Leliana fanclub entertained ("people want more,so they'll make something up if they think it can sell")?

I believe it's the latter. DA:O had a satisfying conclusion imo,a proper conclusion to the Warden story (the Grey Wardens were only of major importance during a Blight,so unless they want to shoehorn a Blight into DA2,it's time to move onto someone elses story). Fanboys saw otherwise and begged for the return of Morrigan (or to be more exact, more Warden/Morrigan romance),thus this DLC is born. They begged for it and cried tears of joy when it came to fruition (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/94/index/4568066). Now hopefully the "Bahhhhh!!! I can't continue my Warden story" sect will keep their mouths shut until they actually play Dragon Age 2.

Let's not kid ourselves here. This wasn't decided by BioWare, this was an EA decision. Developers don't decide shit these days; it's the people with the money pulling the strings.

As a software developer myself, it fucking sucks.

This DLC isn't about the end of DA:O where she says to never follow her. I mean did you even talk to Morrigan throughout the game at all? Even the name of the DLC gives it away. Witch Hunt will be about what Morrigan told you about if you tried to romance her. This DLC will likely be about the Chantry hunting Morrigan. Flemeth is in Dragon Age 2 so I'm sure they will wrap up about what Morrigan said in the end in Dragon Age 2 as well.

How is this ruining the ending of the game? If you really liked just the original ending of the retail game, that's cool, whatever. They're not forcing this additional lore/fiction down your throat or anything. Some people actually really wanted to know what happened to Morrigan after the game, so I can see this being the most popular one.
This is like reviewing games, music, movies, etc. If you don't like it, then move on to something else. There's no need to dwell on something that's not for you and crap all over it.

They are putting Avatar back in the theatres with more scenes. Is this what your talking about with Inception? The DLC, im sure, is kind of setting up what is to happen in Dragon Age 2. The more the merrier I say. I dropped over 100 hours in this game and am playing it through for a 3rd time. As for ruining the end of the game, there are different endings anyway.

Of the DA dlc, there was no reason for Shayle or Return to Ostagar to be excluded from the original game. Especially since RTO had real plot information.

But the whole point of Morrigan is that her fate is a mystery. Now that's being ruined in a blatant money grab. Don't forget, EA is in serious financial trouble. They're going to bleed the poor corpse of Bioware dry.

While I do agree that dragon age has had way to much DLC I see from a storyline standpoint why this is needed:

    *SPOILER WARNING*
    *SPOILER WARNING*

Awakening expansion forced the decision of The Warden to be perform The Dark Ritual because The Warden was alive in Awakening. This DLC makes sense because someone who doesn't want a god baby in their storyline can what I assume most likely kill Morrigan and the baby at the same time. The other choice is obviously spare her and let the god baby story continue into future Dragon Ages. This decision doesn't make sense for Hawke to be doing into Dragon Age 2.

    *SPOILER END*
    *SPOILER END*

Buy DLC about Leliana that uses a bunch of recycled environments and barely goes any deeper than what you could find out from her side quest. Whine about Morrigan DLC that continues the story of the most interesting female DA character and wraps up DA:O. (who incidentally makes gives you one of the hardest choices ever) And don't even get me started on Liara...

I won't lie, it has upset me a little that they ruined the mystery of Morrigan, but at the same time (Since my female warden was in such a close friendship with her), I really do want to know what happened.

I was hoping that what happened would have been handled by the actual DA team in the actual sequel...

But the way it sounds, people ain't actually happy about the sequal changes either....
