This is what Parasite Eve is now. Thoughts? The first one was a brilliant cinematic action RPG. The sequel was a Resident Evil clone. This looks like a 3rd person shooter on PSP with all the haunting beauty of the original Parasite Eve stripped out. The only thing remotely interesting in this footage is the ability to jump from body to body.

Let's just hope the controls don't suck.

I dunno- the game art at the top looks like she wants to shoot herself... maybe it is a bad game. Dark humor aside, the battle looks dynamic, but other than switching bodies to either save yourself from death or to gain a new weapon, vantage point, etc, I wonder if she has any other special powers? If not and the combat is as it appears and nothing more, it's just going to be a partially-covered party mechanic that switches control upon death of player's current character, ie Marvel Alliance. There needs to be distinct advantages/disadvantages and necessary reasons to do so.

The game footage in the second video clip looked somewhat interesting. Also It does look pretty cool to jump body to body in combat.

    In am disappoint.
This just looks like they stuck a tiny blonde girl into Gears of war and added more colors. Besides her looking so frail its out of character, and bleeding everywhere, it lacks the Horror part of the franchise that made it so much fun to play. Creepy bug like enemies are a dime a dozen now. Gameplay wise its just a 3rd person shooter with none of the rpg parts that seperated it from that genre; ie the aiming sphere and/or ATB battles. I guess SE is moving on from that, but this just looks generic.

Also, where is [Mitochondria] Eve? I know that SE lost the rights to the title "Parasite Eve" when they didn't pay to keep it on time, but does that mean we can't even have the main badguy at all.

I'm hoping the player character is Maya, the girl found in PE2 because Aya was 29 or 27 when PE2 happened and this character looks 18.

This comment may be out of place but Brad wanted more comments on there post...well here we go. Though I never played this franchise and I may be wrong but it kinda sucks that they stripped out their RPG element and transforming it as an 3rd person shooter. Why do some developers these days wont stay to there roots and keep there games as there were.

Tis a sad, sad world for gamers. T.T

Eh....it looks interesting enough but the body switching seems more a gimmick then a legitimate gameplay feature

Parasite Eve, being one of my favorite game series ever, this new one is disappointing. I liked the game because of its RPG elements and horror atmosphere that were pretty unique for the time, mainly being the action rpg battle system which looks to be replaced by a 3rd person shooter in this game. They are basically stripping everything I liked about the series out. Sure it could turn out to be a decent game but it's not the kind of game I want.

Looks like they're trying to appeal to the Monster Hunter fanbase. Not surprising I guess.

I have to agree with Battletoad and Rusty, I heard this was a spinoff of the series and thats fine but the last spinoff that I can remember on psp was Crisis Core and the gameplay took a change for the worse in that game also by just not staying true its roots and this game reminds me exactly of that by turning itself more into a 3rd person shooter than a JRPG and I know that this is probably because Square-Enix felt like making it more "Western friendly" which annoys the hell out of me! Darn you Square-Enix!!

Well that's a disappointment, i hate it when horror survival games devolve into shooters. The enemy design does look interesting though and the ability to jump from body to body will be cool, so maybe with a good story it'll save the game from being just another of the thousands of shooters out there

It kinda reminds me of that old game Geist where it was possible to possess people and some animals, including a cockroach, and control it :P

So does it still have RPG style character development?

It looks interesting to me. PE 2 had similar game play if i remember right. not Time Bar, and similar combat. i could be mistaken, it has been a while since i played PE2 though. I will continue to watch this. Thanks for the update Brad.

With PE1, it was a survival horror rpg. You had to wait for your ATB to fill so you could attack, heal or whatever, but you could always run around in between, even if you were really slow. When PE2 came out, the ATB was gone and you could attack whenever but it still had some rpg elements such as the points to upgrade your mitochondria powers or the ability to change your equipment and how it effects your character, and even able to customize certain items. It seems with third birthday, you're just jumping from body to body when you're about to die and not really worrying about whether or not you should heal. You just seem to jump into a different body and continue fighting.

I hope I'm not jumping to this conclusion, but it seems that SE is trying to appeal to the western audience and completely leave behind the basis for the original PE. If this really is the same Aya Brea from the first 2 games, then SE really betrayed how the character really was. In the first and second games, she fought mitochondria creatures to protect people, but in this one it seems she's using them as more a vessel to jump into when she needs, which I feel actually betrays her morals in the earlier games. Then again, it has been a few years since I played them.

I'll try this out, but I'm thinking it won't amount to what the first one brought. The trailer didn't get me that excited unfortunately.

The jumping from bodies seems neat but everything else looks like some random 3rd Person Shooter on the PSP. That is not my Parasite Eve.

Well, this is Square Enix, Brad. Front Mission can't be the only franchise to receive a shitty third person shooter revamp!

i've never heard of this game before now, but it looks absolutely predictable and boring. there's no real use for jumping from body to body. i really hope they figure out a way to make that necessary instead of just "fun to do."

Seeing this trailer is extremly disheartening as I had some of my fondest childhood moments around the original Parasite Eve. Finding the series fall victim to such disgrace is nothing short of the ever apparent reality that nothing gold can stay, But I thank you for posting this Brad, as I would never have know that this had come into existance.
