Also known as Ni No Kuni, this Level 5 and Studio Ghibli developed game was previously only going to be a Nintendo DS game scheduled for release later this year. Well it seems we are going get to see this beauty in HD as well, as the game has also been announced for release on PS3 in 2011. Check out the trailer below.

Why should you care about this game you have probably never heard of? Well, for one it's an RPG from Level 5 (Dark Cloud, Professor Layton, Dragon Quest) -- one of the most promising Japanese developers in the past 10 years. And then there is Studio Ghibli -- the animation studio behind so many fantastic Miyazaki and Takahata films (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies).

Also, I played a demo of the DS version of the game and honestly, I can't wait to get my hands on the final localized version. It's a very traditional turn-based Japanese RPG, but the production values are through the roof. The art and cinematics are beautiful and the voice acting is stellar. Actually, I think the entire game might be fully voiced -- which would certainly be impressive.

I'm still not sure if the PS3 version of the game is simply a prettier version of the DS iteration. After playing the DS version and seeing the PS3 trailer, the battle system is certainly different in both games. The DS game had a system very reminiscent of Dragon Quest, while I have no fucking clue what is going on in the battles on the PS3.

Either way, both games look amazing and I want them in my mouth now.

    Dont forget PONYOOOO!

but indeed...the first 10 seconds of this trailer reminds me of a Miyazaki movie! The graphics in this game reminds me of Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm's, and I love it
s spin of animation/3D...it looks really nice! I'm interested in playing this

I have only seen Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke but both of those films were amazing. The game looks great and it really was able to copy the movie pretty well from what i saw in the video. The combat looks interesting i wonder if you will only be attacking with the creature or if you can cast spells to attack as well or even heal

I'm guessing the battle system is the little creature guys doing their own thing while you shout out tactics changes. L1 seems to alternate between who receives the commands (It's set to "everyone" throughout the video). The four commands I see are "Go!", "Special attack" "Watch out", and "Fortify defense"

There are a BUNCH of artistically unique games im looking forward to coming out on the PS3 such as El Shaddai, Journey, Limbo and now The Another World, all waiting to stroke the artsy vagina in me. Its great to see a good ol' JRPG making its way onto a HD console, especially one as aesthetically unqiue as this one.

Woah! Joe Hisaishi is composing the music. Add to that Level 5 and Studio Ghibli and you've got yourself a must buy! Production value will be insane.

    That looks gorgeous!
I've been a Studio Ghibli fan for ages now, and I'm happy to see their graceful, colourful, and unique-to-Ghibli art has made it through to the game.
From what I see in the trailer, the production values promise to be stellar. The battle system almost seems to be a...hmm...Final Fantasy-like and (dare I say) Pokemon-esqe combination. Which could be great, or could become irritating.
The DS trailers also seem to promise good old Ghibli talking cats, half-animal-half-human ladyfolk, and the always heartwarming tale of a child who doesn't quite fit in/has a not so desirable life who is then thrust into a world one can only imagine...in other words, I am now DEFINITELY putting The Another World on my watch/wishlist for PS3 games!

A awesome example on how fucking awesome a JRPG can look on a next gen system. Now if only other developers could make their games on something other than the DS and PSP...

I heard that the DS and PS3 games will be different, with both having different subtitles. Don't have a DS but can't wait for the PS3 game.

I love turn based style. Nice to have the classic back. Sort of looks like a cross between Pokemon and some of the other games that Level 5 have worked on.

I've always been a JRPG fan, and this looks like it'll end the drought of good JRPG's when it releases next year.

Do want. Dark Cloud 2 was the last thing of level-5's I've played... I think.

Speaking of which Brad, man up and beat Dark Cloud 2! So you lost Monica's leopard bikini and quite a bit of hours playing Spheda. Just do yourself a favor and start a new game, grin and bear those salty wounds. You know you want to take a picture of Halloween's Robot Attack for those clown pieces for Max's robot. It's not like it's going to be a bad journey, and starting from the beginning will absolve the 'what the hell am I doing' by loading a save. Think about it.

Nobodies just a little disappointed that they chose to go with a Generic RPG style instead of an artistic flowing Team ICO style gameplay? I will really try hard to like it but I was hoping for a Miyazaki film, just in video game form as much as I love RPGs I wonder how long repetitive turn based battles will keep the pacing. I too played the demo and although I can't wait for this game the demo did nothing for me. I couldn't understand a word and just fought people. graphics and VO were awesome though.

As soon as I saw a picture of this game I went 'Oh my god that looks like Studio Ghibli work." But I was like, "But it's a game..." Then I read the article and I totally creamed my pants. Turn-based RPG or not, if it's Studio Ghibli, I'll play it. It's freaking gorgeous. And Studio Ghibli always has great production and etc. so hopefully it will be as great as all their movies.
    I CAN'T WAIT! >_<!
