So the rumor is Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) might be working on Devil May Cry 5. So here are my thoughts.

1. Where is the team who made Devil May Cry 3 and 4? Those games were awesome, and the series has been gradually improving in terms of mechanics.

2. While I really liked Heavenly Sword, I like it for completely different reasons than I like Devil May Cry. I like Heavenly Sword for the story, the characters, and the presentation of those elements. I REALLY didn't like the Nariko gameplay -- like... at all. Devil May Cry is awesome for its combat and its boss fights.

3.
This rumor seems a little silly since they are still working on Enslaved.

4. If they make Lady a playable character where you steer her rockets like Kai did with her arrows ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN AND THIS WILL BE THE GREATEST GAME EVER.

5. Where did I hear this rumor? I can't remember. Therefore, this must be a reality.

What are your thoughts?

Brad

i feel that if ninja theory handled devil may cry 5 itll be a 50 50 chance of being good or bad

alhtough i feel dmc3 and 4 were awesome games... ninja theory isnt as bad as mercurysteam since they do have reputation with heavenly sword..

i think we all just have to wait and see wat happens

After bayonetta i whent back to devil may cry and it felt kind of 'meh' in comparison. I'm not talking graphics or anything as shallow as that. I just found i was easily clearing areas just constantly shooting and juggling and didnt actually have to do anything else. whereas bayonetta had you on the move constantly. you could never stand still in a fight.
I beat every fight in dmc2 just by jumping in the air and using the knockback of the guns to keep me up permanently. Now if these guys can remove this one hit combo element in exchange for some of bayonettas frenetic, gymnastic gameplay then right on. if not im sort of lacking any enthusiasm for another devil may cry game. I mean its not like i'd go back again for the story y'know?

I hated DMC4 so much.. not because of gameplay but because they seem to blatantly ignore the storyline from past games. Don't shove all the awesome main characters onto the back burner!

I do have to add another vote to the playable Lady with sixaxis (or otherwise) rocket control..

In terms of mechanics, I felt DMC4 was the best out of the series. DMC3 was the best with the story and I really liked the young Dante. I don't see why people hated Nero. I liked him and I would've been just as happy playing as him the rest of the game instead of Dante who I felt was just tacked on since people were mad that you played as Nero instead.

Besides, if they manage to take their story telling and add it to the DMC4 gameplay style, it could be a very well done action game. Action may not be as good as Bayonetta, but it may have a deep story.

"4. If they make Lady a playable character where you steer her rockets like Kai did with her arrows ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN AND THIS WILL BE THE GREATEST GAME EVER."

some reason i lol'd at this.

I always loved the DMC franchise, even DMC 2. if its true, i hope it will be a grand game.

Emily, you do know dmc4 isn't technically a sequel, yeah? It goes Devil may cry 3, then 1, then 4, and then 2. Admittedly still it may have ignored previous games, but in case you didn't know, that may have changed your view a little bit.

@Steve, yeah I knew all that. I just really liked the stories from 1 and 3 and feel like they could have built on them more.

I loved the mechanics they added in the 4th game but I didn't like Nero because of his character and he looked a little too much like Dante did. They could have been just as over the top but with a more original character. However I did enjoy the arm mechanics with Nero.

I really don't know what to think about this rumor since I've never played Heavenly Sword before and if they are going to stick with the mechanics that made Devil May Cry as a series fun to play or not.

If they can keep the core gameplay that made Devil May Cry good without messing it up and adding a few improvements I think this game could have a chance.

I really don't know how to feel about this. I haven't played Heavenly Sword, but from what I've seen, it is kinda like GoW's combat, though I could be completely wrong about that. It's true that DMC is mostly about the combat and everything, but I don't think we've seen enough to rule out that Ninja Theory could polish up the combat. Unless they say that they are going to try and reinvent the DMC series with new mechanics, I don't think we should be too concerned just yet.

Heavenly Sword was a pretty average game, so I don't really know what to expect out of this. Then again, as you said, it's a rumor. I'll need to see if they are actually working on the game and how they are handling it before I really form an opinion.

I feel that DMC has been thrown into the hat of games that several producers can grab for, rather than one team that we know can pull of a great DMC game. I fear for another DMC2.

I just hope they don't look at Bayonetta and say "Hey we should do the exact same thing with DMC." That is not what DMC is.

Dante, Vergil, Lady, and Trish should all be playable characters.

I've yet to play "Heavenly Sword" so I can't speak to the combat system in that game other than people saying it's a female "God Of War". Hopefully they don't water down DMC's combat to that level. However, the idea of someone else getting a crack at the DMC series does have me curious. I'm hoping if Ninja Theory is planning on developing DMC5 they don't ignore what made the rest of the series great, and maybe......just maybe.....improve on it. If they can up the ante in terms of story and characterization that be pretty awesome too, despite the fact that Dante is one of my favorite characters already.

Even though I'm a huge fan of DMC3 and 4, it'll be nice to see a new style and look brought to the franchise. Hopefully they will refrain from quick time events and keep the kick ass cutscenes.

    Just..Ugh!

Heavenly Sword looked amazing. But good god everything else about it sucked so badly. It was terrible, the gameplay, the storyline. Especially the arrows with Kai...Just.. UGH Kai in geneal. Let's play Twing Twang because i'm special.

I really hope they aren't making it...and if they are they don't do it anything like heavenly sword

If they are making Devil May Cry the only thing im worried about is the gameplay like you said having a Devil May Cry with more of a story line might actually be a good thing but I did not particularly like the gameplay in Heavenly Sword. As long as they keep the battle system to way it is and maybe just maybe tweak it so that its even more awesome I think I will enjoy the game.

If the rumor is true, I'm curious as to how the game will turn out compared to 3 and 4. 4, being the latest and one of my all-time favourite games, was extremely enjoyable regardless of the fact that you played as Nero for a while rather than Dante. As kick-ass as Dante was, playing as Nero was just as enjoyable, especially with the Devil Bringer. I doubt Nero might be in the next game, though it is possible, I guess. But, like a comment before, I really hope QTE's won't be applied to this next one, at least not in a cut-scene. If they remove the Stylish thing system or even taunts, I will cry inside.. just sayin'. I DO hope they add cinematic sequences to the bosses and some enemies, like they did in the 4th with Nero's Devil Bringer, even if you play as just Dante, as those were extremely enjoyable to pull off. Fighting the bosses as Dante in DMC4 felt bland and not as enjoyable for not having those quick cinematic sequences.
To boil it down, I hope they don't "fix" the combat too much to where it isn't even DMC, and I look forward to more cinematic sequences/ Dante vs Virgil fights (or atleast a boss of similar size.)

I've yet to play Heavenly Sword, but I've only heard good things about it. Capcom seems to be on a kick lately with handing off their franchises to Western developers. If it's true, I think Ninja Theory will do a fine job with DMC5.

If they can present the story and atmosphere from DMC 2 and have fun gameplay from DMC 3 i'll buy the game.

I'll buy the game ethier way.

People liked "lady"? She had like no plot whatsoever and the "revelations" where all pretty pathetic. I remember being INCREDIBLY sick of the whole

"I'm a tough woman who can fight!"

crap that was so prevalent in games and movie back when it was released in particular..
