Nintendo has announced what they call "the new portable game machine to succeed Nintendo DS series." It is tentatively called the "Nintendo 3DS."

The name is a play on the main new technology it will introduce, 3D. The next DS will not require any special glasses for 3D, meaning it will most likely feature some sort of autostereoscopic display or use head tracking. It will also still be backwards compatible with DS and DSi software.

The 3DS is to be launched sometime before the end of the next Japanese fiscal year which would place it, at the latest, around March 2011. More details are to be released at E3 this year, which starts June 15.

Seems like another gimmick that Nintendo is gonna throw into the hat... Two screens (Though admittedly that worked.), Motion controls, and now the Thiiirrddd-dimensiioooonnn.

The next Ninendo console will be controlled with your MIND! Soon gaming consoles that require the use of your hands will be regarded as babies toys and... Wait, all of this sounds very familiar...

Nintendo Man is getting old, he should retire, or at least let an heir rule over the mushroom kingdom.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is an april fools joke. Because they would be stupid to announce a new DS when the DSi XL hasn't even dropped yet.
