No matter how you feel about GameSpot I'm certainly happy and surprised that they chose Demon's Souls as their Game of the Year. Demon's Souls is truly an RPG experience like no other. One that draws much of its atmosphere from original pen and paper RPG's such as Warhammer. To think that it beat out games like Uncharted 2 and Assassins Creed 2 on a gaming site which tends to lean toward more trendy titles really tells you something.

I would say Dragon Age PC is a better RPG than demon souls overall but dragon age 360 controls were janky along with the graphics. This will at least give demon souls a few more sales though right? BTW isnt demon souls rated lower than Uncharted 2 on gamespot? How can this be?

Demon's Souls did so many things new and right that I'm glad it's getting recognition. Being published by one of my favorite publishers doesn't hurt either. =3
But I digress, in a stagnant JRPG market, it's interesting to see that a western styled RPG made in the East took home a GOTY from a well known website such as GameSpot.
Well done From Software, well done.

Incredibly difficult game (offline), but highly addicting! The game lures you in to master its surprisingly complex combat system, and offers great customization. An experience like no other western rpg i've played. Well deserved GOTY for me too.

I was blown away when I heard of this.
Gamespot have now redeemed themselves a bit in my eyes after the kane&lynch/jeff gerstmann shit that went down back in the days.
Also, Gametrailers gave Demon's Souls a couple of awards. Most innovative game and best rpg of 2009. Pretty cool.

Personally, even though I liked Uncharted 2, it felt sort of "small" compared to Demon's Souls. Sure, Uncharted 2 had great moments and what not, but it still felt smaller than DS. I'm glad Demon's Souls got the GOTY for a game site that usually awards more popular games.
BUT, is it me or was the candidates for GOTY on gamespot a bit weak? I mean go and take a look.

Deserves every bit of that title. Game of the Year, Indeed. And I'm hoping for an announcement of DLC or a Sequel. Or something related, but not directly a sequel.
