nomoreheroesxbox360Today marks the announcement I have been awaiting for quite some time. Ubisoft let the cat out of the bag about the future of "No More Heroes" on the "current-gen" consoles. No More Heroes is still my favorite Wii game to date for a number of reasons. Few other games have as much charm, style, and utter hilarity. Travis Touchdown is the epitome of what me or any other video game nerd would be if we were given a beam katana and told to become the world's greatest assassin (I'm still waiting for this to happen). Sylvia is the world's best example of why women are devious and shouldn't be trusted (sorry ladies!). Of course, you can't forget about the game's amazing supporting cast and clever game/control mechanics. To sum it up, it all came together and turned out to be one of the best experiences that the Wii has to offer.

nmh_famitsuFamitsu magazine spills the beans this month about NMH's first outing on a current gen console. Unfortunately, the game is a port of the original and will simply sport a Japanese voice track and less clothing for the female cast (unfortunately, that sells it for me). I won't be too negative because the fact that the game is in HD is reason enough to pick this game up again. The entire time I was playing the Wii version, I couldn't stop thinking about how great the game would look if it were in HD. I would have preferred the announcement of NMH3 but this port is surely a precursor to the series making a permanent shift to the XB360/PS3, where it's target audience has been all along.

project_natal_picOn a side note, the games translation to the Xbox 360 may also say something about Suda 51's motives and the future of motion control on the console. With the port already on the way and the sequel due out on the Wii in Feb 2010, it is highly likely that Suda might be making the shift in order to take advantage of Project Natal. We at 4PP have been less than thrilled about the direction that project Natal is sure to take the industry but the thought of Suda 51 getting his hands on it and putting it to use in NMH3 actually excites me. Trust me when I say that after that less than stellar demonstration at E3, Suda 51 is probably the best thing that could happen to Natal. The innovations that Suda introduced to the Wii remote attest to his ability to create interesting and fun uses for inferior or gimmicky control technologies. All I can really say is that if NMH really does take the road it seems to be on, I will be there to pick up a Natal camera day one. Thank Suda Microsoft... go ahead... thank him.

Assuming a No More Heroes 3 actually will exist might be a bit much.

I also wouldn't assume this port will look markedly better than the Wii version. It will probably keep the same textures and only render at 720p.

Great news that more people get to play the game though, hopefully nothing is lost in the translation from the Wii version. It better not be just tap a button to charge up the beam katana or move the stick to do a finisher.

Also, what did you mean by the title?

First of all, Suda 51 has already talked extensively about wanting to continue the series on the 360/PS3 so it is likely that NMH3 will happen at some point.

2nd- No More Heroes is a mature game on the Wii... there is very little of that audience on the Wii (as demonstrated by the shitty sales of Dead Space Extraction and countless other mature games), people who want mature, deep games tend to play the xbox 360 and PS3 so hence... the audience for this game is on the 360/PS3.

I know he wants to continue it (although I haven't heard any comments past 2), but what is wanted and what is financially viable are different things.

Also, I would say No More Heroes found an audience on the Wii, it sold well. If it didn't find an audience the sequel wouldn't be in production right now.

He has made comments about the future of the series on the 360. I did not say that any of this is confirmed, it is all speculation. The very act of bringing the game to the xbox 360 at all is like a litmus test for the IP on the console. TRUST ME, I understand the difference between what is wanted and what is financially viable. However, financially viable doesn't mean much anymore, companies push games out the doors all the time that clearly don't stand to make a profit. I could have told you that Dead Space Extraction wasn't gonna sell the moment they announced it, despite the quality of the game.

And yes, NMH found AN audience on the Wii but if that game had released on the Xbox 360 first, it most likely would have sold twice as much ... at least. The vast majority of Wii owners are casual gamers who have no interest in that style of game. The XB360/PS3 market would have been much more receptive to the concept.

I think the only reason Suda put NMH on the Wii in the first place was because he had all these crazy ideas for the control scheme and the Xb360/PS3 controllers were just too limiting. Now that there are motion controllers coming to those systems, those limits on creativity have been lifted.

In conclusion, i think NMH3 is not only a possibility but a probability.

I have mixed feelings about this announcement.

Regarding NMH3, there were some comments he made on Kotaku about continuing the series on the next Nintendo platform.

I dunno what to make of this. I love NMH as a wii game. I feel like some of the stuff that made NMH on the wii good is going to be lost in translation when put on a regular game controler. This is a game that, I think, should stay on the wii. That being said, I read the article on Famitsu and I might decide to buy it for PS3 just because of "Very Sweet" mode, which has the female assassins wearing less clothes (I hope it doesn't apply to Speed Buster). I might pick it up just for that if the game is at the right price.

Very Interesting news here, but some of the charm of playing No More Heroes will be lost by releasing the port. It was very satisfying to pull of the finisher wrestling moves and cut bodies in half with the Wii-mote.

And recharging your Katana was awesome :)

Id be glad to see a no more heroes game on the 360 and ps3 but, i mean i dont see anything wrong with the game, the graphics are awesome and it really fits with the game, and the controls i think they are a part of no more heroes but i think suda 51 will find a way to adapt them to the other consoles.
Now my problem is that suda 51 made some comments about nm2 and those were that the upcoming game will end with the travis storyline, which sucks to me because travis is the essence of the game.

I'm stoked for this now. I played the first one back when it came out, and have since sold my Wii. It's awesome to know I'll get to continue the experience.
