Lords_of_ShadowThere is a new insightful interview with the producer of the new "Castlevania" game. Yes, I did put that in parenthesis. Given that I am currently playing through my first 2D Castlevania game, I am starting to understand more fully the concerns that Brad has been expressing. That's not to say that I am negative on the game because I certainly am not but there are some things that are kind of fishy.

Things of Note:
1.) He states Castlevania 64 as a prominent influence on the game... :(
2.) He makes a comparison to God of War and Dantes Inferno... :(
3.) He recognizes that Jericho wasn't a very good game... :)
4.) He admits that Kojima is not involved creatively with the project... :)?

We knew all this before but it is nice to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. The way I see it, I will judge the game based on what HE was trying to accomplish with it and not on how it compares to previous Castlevania's.

I really hope that Mercury steam turns out a good game this go round, sounds like Konami is pulling the stops out and letting do what they want to do, not just what they are shoehorned into doing.

just for the fact that this game wont have the exploration elements of the older games, this game is no longer a castlevania for me :´(

1.) He states Castlevania 64 as a prominent influence on the game…
Hopefully just taking good features from 64..

2.) He makes a comparison to God of War and Dantes Inferno…
You have to admit that just about everyone said it looks like GoW.. He's saying the game wont be like either of them.

3.) He recognizes that Jericho wasn’t a very good game…
Every team needs a second chance. MS has potential, it just wasn't in Jericho.

4.) He admits that Kojima is not involved creatively with the project…?
Does not really shed some light on what the heck Kojima is even doing.

It seems like to me, that if this game does turn out good it's not gonna have the elements that made the previous Castlevania games what they are, which kills it for me personally. I don't want an action-oriented Castlevania its the exploration, and mild platforming and rpg elements that I like about it.

Umm doesn't he say you will explore the world? Why are people saying that part is out of the game when he basically says it will. Not in a Metroid type way but still the exploring is still there. Jeez just wait for a Demo or something before you people throw judgments out at it .

I'm surprised they didn't take the whip out altogether since they're trying to be "bold, new, innovative, and edgy." =|

Also he didn't state Castlevania 64 as a prominent influence. He stated Super Castlevania IV and the original Castlevania as influences. I'm interested to see what exactly he's taking away from those games and putting into Lords of Shadow.

I'm confused. I didn't hear him mention anything about Castlevania 64 in that interview.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Rather early on he says a bit about the story being very linear, and it's not open world like GTA, but towards the end he spouts some bit about "oh, we want the player to explore, go off the beaten path".. huh? Confusion, dude.

Also, no. You are not allowed to make references to something as creative and mind-blowing as Shadow of the Colossus after producing something even in the same vein as Jericho. No, no no. No, no. BAD dev. BAD.

For all of those who are confused about exploration, he's saying it's NOT the type of exploration like the old Castlevania games where it's like metroid, with back tracking and going back to previous areas with more powers to find another area.

It's like a strait forward path, but there maybe 2 or 3 different ways to get to the same destination. I'll use a bridge as an example. You can walk across the bridge to get to the other side, or you can walk under the bridge to get to the other side. Ultimately, you're getting to the same place, just taking a different rout to do it.

I realise why Brad is worried about this game. The problem is that whilst this game may not be the castlevania game everyone wants, it could still be a pretty fun game, even if it is a simplified God of War esq game.

I reckon this game will go largely unnoticed and will recieve criticism from fans of the old castlevania's, but people who like simple hack and slash games will enjoy it.

Honestly they should have just left the game as 'lord of shadows'
(p.s. I have never played a castlevania game, and have no intention to)
