So what do you think? I'm still angry that such a beautiful game's sequel is being released on such an underpowered system, but I should be happy it even exists, right?

While Okami is looking pretty decent as a DS game, I will not quickly forget the history behind this mess and my concerns about Capcom dissolving Clover, about Kamiya and team not working on this game, and about how the current fucked up console market is dictating what games are being developed on in Japan.

What team do you think is working on this game anyway? Have there been any big 3d Capcom games for the DS? Maybe it's that team.

First Valkyria Chronicles and now Okami. Both games received great reviews but sold poorly, both have been given a sequel, but both of those sequels have been put on handheld system.

Am I the only one seeing a pattern here?

I wouldn't necessarily call it a pattern. Yes it happened to both of those games but they were released so far apart from each other, I wouldn't call them related. That's what just happens naturally. There are tons of games that sell poorly but get great reviews.

If anything I think it shows that the parent company still sees the franchise as having some sort of value. They don't want to spend the money on a full console release, but are still willing to bring it out in some form. Yes we'd like more, but we take what we can get.

Look at a couple other Capcom franchises like Onimusha, Dino Crisis, Viewtiful Joe and now Bionic Commando. Chances are we've got a good while before any of those are ever seen again if at all.

I have hope for this to be good. From what I have found, It is directed by Kuniomi Matsushita, who is a left-over from Clover and Kamiya's teams.

I really feel like he (and hopefully his whole team, which probably isn't that large) really wants this game to be made. Given Capcom's statements on Okami in the past, that prototype they made up had to have been something noteworthy to change the minds at Capcom and have a second Okami approved.

You are right about the Japanese market dictating the platform, with them saying they want as many people as possible to play it. But I don't think this is that bad, there is no reason it couldn't play just fine on the DS.

And really, the first Okami wasn't a technical powerhouse but it had fantastic art direction, something that appears to be the same in the DS one. I'm sure they will utilize some of the 2D tricks used in the first and it will scale down just fine.

I forgot to say, one thing that worries me is the sound compression on the DS. It is terrible. The music contributed to the fantastic vibes of the first.

Maybe it will be a DSi game and utilize the extra power and bigger game cards.

    You never know. ;)

Unlike some others, I have never played Okami before, but I always hear it is such a great game. I agree that it is sad that this great game is followed by a game on a handheld. I do believe the game looks good, but the overall presentation of the game will be a lot lower than it would be on the PS3, 360, or Wii.

On the other hand, the DS and PSP are doing quite well in terms of sales, so I wouldn't be surprised if putting these sequels on handhelds would be the safest choice.

I really hope this game isn't ignored, and I'm sure the game will be at least somewhat enjoyable. Anyways, people will at least get to experience Okami in some way one more time, so I think that everyone should be happy that we even get this chance.

i dont know about this, okami is my favorite game for the PS2,the idea of a "puppy" instead of a full grown amaterasu is kinda strange (cute, but strange),besides based on that video you have a little girl instead of issun.I hope the game sells a lot because of the love that i feel for the original, but i dont know

P.S:if amaterasu is a puppy, that means that this game will be something like a prequel?

Who cares what system it's on. So long as it's good.

I've been waiting on a DS port of Okami for a while. The controls would transfer perfectly.

I find it bittersweet that great games that might have under performed in sales are getting sequels, but the catch is that the sequel is going to be on a hand held. Things that I loved and enjoyed about the original game will likely lose something in the translation as it goes from console to portable. I suppose it's okay if the game is an spin off of the series that is engineered for the smaller platform, but a direct sequel is somewhat disheartening.

I suppose I'm glad they are at least making a sequel, but the question is, if I buy the game, does the publisher see a successful sequel on a portable as the future for the series and continue to produce more portable sequels, or do they see renewed interest in the series and give it a proper console release again? If I don't buy the portable sequel at all, that's sure to be the end of the series entirely though so it's sort of a catch 22.

Still, there have been some good portable sequels that have managed to work like Metroid 2 and the Zelda series has done okay on portables as well. I'm just excited to see an Okami sequel period, and it will probably play out just fine on the DS. The DS can always use another solid title.
