Dark Void is the new game published by Capcom and developed by Airtight Studios. This was the team who worked on Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge for the original Xbox. That game was one of the first titles launched for Xbox Live and easily one of my favorite Xbox games. It captured the joy of flying like nothing else I've played, and I have been clamoring for a sequel ever since I beat it. This is not the next Crimson Skies though. This is Dark Void.

(give the video some time to load, it's high quality)

From what I've seen: Crimson Skies + Gears of War + Rocketeer + War of the Worlds = Dark Void.

While Dark Void is not the sequel I desire so badly, it does appear to be hitting all the right spots. When I first watched the video I saw some on-foot/jetpack sequences and was mildly impressed. Then I saw vertical gameplay and I got more excited. Then the developer talked about all the different upgrades and I started to get giddy. Then when I realized this game is still heavily centered around flying... I was sold.

Many developers try to design their games around on-foot missions and end up throwing in things like flying as an afterthought. This developer knows how to execute a good flying system, so I have no doubt in my mind they will get that part of this game right. Some of the best parts of Crimson Skies was flying engaging in combat with giant airship bosses. Having this return in Dark Void but now being able to jump out of your ship, fly over on your jet-pack, climb the sides of the ship taking out enemies, retreating via jetpack and jacking a UFO only to re-engage the enemy from the skies... holy shit, so much win.

I'll be sure to follow this one a little more closely.
