Bayonetta 2 Confirmed As Wii U Exclusive
By George Denison on September 13th, 2012 (42 comments)

Bayonetta 2, the sequel to Platinum Games' kinky action shoot-em-up, has been announced as a Wii U exclusive title at the Wii U conference today. The game will be published by Nintendo as opposed to Sega, who published the original game.
This is excellent news, particularly considering that the future of Bayonetta was in doubt after Sega was talking about "streamlining" their organisation in the face of financial losses. I would love to see Platinum Games' excellent Vanquish get a sequel as well, but apparently the team are working on a game called The Wonderful 101, also for the Wii U, alongside Bayonetta 2.
At the Wii U conference, it was revealed that the console will be launched in Europe on November 30th, 2012, while the U.S. release date is November 18th. Has the announcement of Bayonetta 2 convinced you to buy Nintendo's new console?

So Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U... I'm a bit disappointed it ended up on a stop-gap console rather than something really next gen. Still, I'm glad it's getting a sequel. I was afraid Sega would hold onto the Bayonetta name once Platinum's stint with them was over.
Link / ReplyI'm not convinced this is really great news, mainly for two reasons: First off, Kamiya isn't going to be directing it, and might not even be involved. Secondly, Nintendo is publishing it, which means there's a possibility they're going to tone down some of the more extreme elements in Bayonetta, especially, I would imagine, the sexuality.
Link / ReplyKind of like how they toned down Resident Evil 4...oh wait.
Link / ReplyPretty sure RE4 was published by Capcom so.... I don't see your point.
Link / ReplyThe point is that Nintendo isn't going to tone down a game simply because its published directly by them. Doing so makes them hypocritical and would be suicide for their system since Bayonetta 2 being exclusive is currently one of the main sell points of the console.
Link / ReplyNot so sure about this. Nintendo seems determined to prove that they can appeal to the core gaming audience by pushing more graphic titles. Batman, call of Duty, AC3, etc... I seriously doubt Nintendo will tone it down.
Link / ReplyI agree it wouldn't be a smart thing to do, but if you look at Nintendo's published game record, you're not finding but maybe one or two M rated games in their entire history, and nothing nearly as overtly sexual as Bayonetta. Nintendo has a clear reputation as a rather puritanical organization. Having their name as publisher is something I imagine they take pretty seriously, when people see the Nintendo name on a game they usually think Mario and Zelda, not hard M material.
Link / ReplyRemember nick, this is the same nintendo that turned down binding of issac for nintendos digital service because they didnt like the "religious implications"
Link / ReplyKamiya is supervising the game.
Link / ReplyMust have missed the part where they said that. That's good news, but still, supervisor not necessarily a position of power. I mean technically Hideo Kojima "supervised" Lords of Shadow.
Link / ReplyFrom my understanding Yusuke Hashimoto is working as the director for the title, he is also a part of Platinum and has a few noteworthy games under his belt. IMDb lists him as the producer of Bayonetta as well, if that's true then there probably won't be much to worry about.
Link / ReplySaw this on GAF and my jaw just dropped. I want this but I don't want a WiiU. I might be at a cross road if some decent IPs come out for this console.
Link / ReplyI don't see Bayonetta selling well on the Wii U. Nowhere near as well as if it was multiplatform. I hope Nintendo paid Platinum a lot of money, they need it.
Link / ReplySo Platinum Games is working on Metal Gear, The Wonderful 101, and Bayonetta 2? I thought they were a pretty small team? I guess this is good news for the people already wanting to get a Wii U. Not so sure if this is great news for those just wanting a new Bayonetta game though.
Link / Replydon't forget anarchy reigns as well
Link / ReplyFuck.
Link / ReplyFuck Yeah* ftfy
Link / Reply[...] Platinum Game’s are going to be making a big splash on the Wii U with The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2. With Platinum’s outside of the box concepts I’m looking forward to seeing what they [...]
Link / ReplyThis is sad news, i dont want a wiiu and i still dont want one. This game is gonna sell like shit, even worst than the first game because its an exclusive on a 1/2 next gen system. Nintendo fans dont give a shit about games like bayonetta, its not why they buy nintendo consoles. Would of been better if it was multi platform but ohh well, im guessing brad will get a wiiu now for the p100 game and bayonetta2. Looks like platnium games and ubisoft is supporting the wiiu pretty well, but i still havent seen the online infrastructure and the premium service sounds like a joke. Also i heard an extra tablet costs like 100 bucks...
Link / ReplyI guess it's time to save up for a Wii U...
Link / ReplyBOO! Just BOO!
Link / ReplyI wonder how much N had to pay to get that exclusive.
Link / ReplyA moment of silence, please..
Link / ReplyMaking it a Wii U exclusive is so stupid why not just put it on all systems? The original was on both PS3 and Xbox360. Since Hideki Kamiya is not working on this one it'll probably suck or become overshadowed by the original. This news is very disappointing.
Link / ReplyYoure kidding me.....fucking lame
Link / ReplyMan....I don't know about this.A really good choice or really bad.....hmm
Link / ReplyGuys. It's being SUPERVISED by Hideki Kamiya. Try not to worry too much. But I'm also wondering how much control Sega has over this title.
Link / ReplyHe is SUPERVISING it. He's not the Director nor is he the Producer. Which means he has very little control of what becomes of Bayonetta 2. We just have to wait and see what they decide to do with this game.
Link / ReplyYeah, that's what I said... He's supervising it. I don't see what you're trying to correct.
Link / Replyur telling all of us not to worry, but him SUPERVISING means next to nothing....like dano has stated he is not the director or the producer. Its the same as when Hideo Kojima “supervised” Lords of Shadow. And we all know how brads feel about that castlevania game. Not to mention its nintendo who is publishing, not sega...they have M rated games in the past, but none that was this sexual...u might see a bit of a tone down
Link / Replythink you are forgetting something. It's still made by Platinum Games, the same studio that made the original.
Link / ReplyDidn't care for Bayonetta in the first place. Although I do see it being pretty stupid to make it a Wii U exclusive.
Link / ReplyThis has convinced me to go nowhere near the console. I loved the first game, but this kind of bs is what drove me away from Nintendo to begin with when Capcom pulled this shit with Resident Evil.
Link / ReplyWhen I heard it was going to be on one console, I thought maybe Xbox. Wii U? Really? What are they thinking!?!?!
Link / Replyhnnnnggggggg.... either way it's bayonetta 2 so it's pretty much a console seller for me. that being said, of course it's a bad idea for it to be a wiiU exclusive but P* has proven to be a well manged studio imo so i can at least hold faith in them (is it too late to hope for a translation error?). as for the whole lords of shadows comparison... keep in mind that were still talking about a studio with actual talent here
Link / Replyyeah but who at P*, they already got ppl working on MGR and Hideki Kamiya’s Project P-100 (The Wonderful 101), which is the game he is working on with his team. Who they got to work on bayonetta 2?
Link / ReplyWell... shit just got real.
Link / Reply...Fuck
Link / ReplyHave to be completely honest when I say I did not see that coming. Hopefully this works in their favour, say what you want about Nintendo but the last thing I want to see is another game company tank.
Link / ReplyNintendo better be good at knife throwing cause this is very dodgy. When I see the Trailer for this and get some more insight then I'll start considering getting a Wii-U. I pretty much haven't touched my Wii in months, so maybe I'll wait a few months till the inevitable price drop.
Link / ReplyNoooooo... I didn't want a Wii U. This is going to be interesting.
