Prey 2 Isn't Cancelled, Says Bethesda

If you are starting to give up hope on Prey 2 seeing the light of day, don't panic. You might be waiting a while to get your hands on it, but the game is still in development, according to Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of PR.
Confusion arose when an interview he gave to IGN in Dutch that was then translated back into English made it sound as though Bethesda was going to pull the plug on Prey 2. The mistranslation suggested that this was due to the expense of the project and Bethesda's disappointment with its progress. Hines explained in a Tweet, "To clarify, I didn't say Prey 2 was canx. Gave an interview in English, translated to Dutch, translated back to English. #LostInTranslation." He also Tweeted that "It's not coming out this year, we don't have any info beyond that."
Bethesda denied cancellation rumours of Prey 2 earlier this year, but admitted that the game would be delayed due to it not meeting up to their quality standards. Prey 2 was allegedly going to diverge from its predecessor's linear design and take place in an open world environment.
If you haven't played the first Prey and have a weekend to spare, I recommend it. It looks dated, sure, but you can pick it up very cheaply and it's surprisingly atmospheric. It would be a shame to see the sequel canned after all this time, so it's good to know that it's still in development. Yet the longer we wait, the more likely it seems that either Prey 2 just isn't a high priority for Bethesda, particularly when they have Dishonoured to worry about, or there's a real struggle to get a decent, working product to ship. I have my fingers crossed for a 2013 release.
