Gamescom: Hitman Absolution Multiplayer Trailer is a Sigh of Relief

I've been afraid of a multiplayer component of Hitman: Absolution for some time now. A standard deathmatch mode with hitmen -and hitwomen- all killing each other in a small arena map would have been the easiest thing for the developer to do...and at the same time, the most misdirected.
Well there is a multiplayer mod of sorts in Absolution that's just been revealed at Gamescom and I can honestly say that I don't think they could have handled it any better.
The Contracts multiplayer mode has players creating kill scenarios within levels with up to three targets, and it's up to other players to complete these contracts and try to garner the best score. With a clean kill and fast completion rate, players will then gain cash to increase their equipment or purchase other items of aesthetic flair for their online character.
"Contracts was inspired by our loyal and extremely creative fans, many of whom are still finding new and amazing ways of taking out targets in previous Hitman games," said Christian Elverdam, gameplay director.
"Contracts mode finally delivers a way for Hitman players to fully realize both their creativity and competitive nature. Whether they're fighting to shave off a split second from their time or combining elements and timing events to create unprecedented accidental deaths, gamers can now challenge and inspire each another with an endless variety of user-generated contracts."
User created content has always been popular among more indie and non-traditional titles, but it's good to see a Triple A game embracing the idea. And expanded, the Contracts mode can really open up the Hitman world to a ton of creative scenarios. Right now we're only seeing a bare-bones representation of where this can go. Add in full-fledged level and scenario editing, and I stand in awe of what can be accomplished. Who ever thought that we could be seeing ideas from Little Big Planet in a Hitman game?
