Capcom and Dontnod Entertainment Unveil New IP at Gamescom 'Remember Me' [UPDATE WITH GAMEPLAY!]

A year after unveiling a new IP entitled 'Adrift' at Gamescom 2011, Capcom has relaunched the project under the new title 'Remember Me'(trailer above). The title is being developed in conjunction with DONTNOD Entertainment, a new development studio based in Paris, France. Capcom released the following description of the game:
In Remember Me, players assume the role of Nilin, an elite memory hunter who is not only incredibly athletic and trained in martial arts, but also has the special ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even change their memories. When her own memory is erased, Nilin begins her journey to reclaim her identity and discover how she can change the world.
'Remember Me' certainly does not shy away from drawing inspiration from plenty of other sources. I had flashbacks of Minority Report, Deus Ex, P.N.03, and Devil May Cry while watching this trailer. Of course, I wouldn't consider this to be a bad thing; these names should be considered to be memorable names in their respective genres (with the exception of P.N.03 maybe). Not without their problems, they each brought something to the table that has served as inspiration for many games/films to follow. Hopefully the final product does not share the unremarkable fate of 'Syndicate', a recent game set in a similar cyber-punk setting.
Considering Capcom's stellar debut of Dragon's Dogma as a new IP and the excellent handling of the Devil May Cry reboot (IMO), it's needless to say that my hopes are pretty high for another new IP from Capcom. The introduction of a new female lead and the slick cyber-punk setting both have me rather excited. With some futuristic memory-hunting and high-octane, third-person action thrown in on top, this is definitely a game that I will be keeping my eye on.
A new announcement like this is exciting but not without its areas for concern. With no mention of deeper mechanics, RPG or otherwise, I am concerned that the game might be a little on the shallow side. Also, DONTNOD Entertainment is a new studio with no projects under its belt to help vet the talent that is involved. Capcom is usually comfortable name dropping major talent from previous projects in order to build hype but nothing has been mentioned as of yet. Hopefully more will be revealed at Gamescom this week or in the coming months.
UPDATE:
Chris here. Along with the announcement trailer Capcom also released a gameplay video with seven minutes of fresh, delicious footage. Check it out:

I have been around since the very early days of 4Player but you may know me as “the short one” or the guy who is really into Dexter and that sweet new DmC reboot. I am a gaming enthusiast at my core and I love sharing my opinions on the subject with anyone who will listen. I am a cautious optimist and will try any game at least once. When it comes to gaming, I prefer to leave no stone unturned.

this reminds me of the movie called "Johnny Mnemonic"
Link / ReplyDo you know why I generally hate videogame stories in general? It's because of how damn heavy handed they are with everything - plot events, character traits, and featured nicely in this trailer, baby-level dialogue. "Why was my MEMORY erased? What was my REAL mission?! I'm the hunter, why am I being HUNTED?!?!" I don't care what the original language that was translated out of, that has to be the worst writing both in terms of execution and concept. Is the reading comprehension level of the average "mature" consumer THAT bad?
Link / Reply"Generally in general"
Link / ReplyIt's a trailer. They typically end up being more heavy handed in presenting the plot because they only have a short amount of time to convey the concept. I wouldn't hold it against it unless the final product is that way. And yes, some game plots are more heavy handed than plots in other mediums but there are still plenty of well written stories to enjoy.
Link / ReplyBut heavy-handed to that extent? If this was a movie trailer the audience would be laughing at it since it sounds like a parody of itself. It honestly sounds like a Scary movie/Epic movie style trailer but for Cyberpunk. Cyber Movie: The Game!
Link / ReplyThere's gameplay available to watch on Game Trailers.
Link / ReplyI'll reserve judgement for now but it could be a surprise hit. Nice to see some NEW IP's taking a chance
Link / ReplyThe trailer wasn't that interesting to me: a bit of the same ol' same ol'. But the gameplay footage did pique my interest. Looks like it could turn out to be a pretty good game, hopefully it won't be as predictable. Or, since it is Capcom, they'll probably make you buy the "real" ending :(
Link / ReplySeems cool. I like the concept and the gameplay. The amnesia thing is a little cliché but I don't mind it.
Link / ReplyAs long as its not too scripted.
Link / ReplyLooks interesting. The voice acting and dialogue sound horrible though, I hope the whole game isn't like that.
Link / ReplyJust saw the gameplay trailer. Now i'm even more intrigued. When she was climbing up the building, all I kept thinking about was Assassin's Creed 4?
Link / ReplyHmm seems interesting I look forward to seeing more of this title.
Link / ReplyI love that remixing mode. I noticed the objective fail up in the top left, and all I could think was, "Oh, now he gets to redo the entire sequence." Maybe it was just traditional gaming logic, but I'm glad that it rewound and the player got to do it over again. Breaking that logic that's been in place for almost two decades is a good way of improving game design, even if this is a central mechanic of the game. As for the rest of the trailer... eh.
Link / ReplyEmpathy is a bitch, when the chips were down it looks like forlan actually does care and so does alexia it seems. Is this going to be one of those games where the main character is being used?
Link / ReplyLadies and gentlemen, The sequel to Metroid Other M!
Link / ReplyIf the game is being farmed out to western developers, I don't care
Link / Replythe story is jason bourne meets total recall...lol
Link / ReplyI'm fairly interested in this. The dialogue will hopefully be in the "so bad its good" range. The actual gameplay looks solid though.
Link / ReplyGot Mass Effect vibes from the architecture like whoa
Link / ReplyI am now excited for this game, Although I do hope the story would be great.
Link / ReplySigh. I'm getting really tired of seeing trailers for games that hardly show any gameplay. I'm not coming to videogames to watch a damn movie, I like videogames because they offer a unique role of interactivity and yet all we get are movie-esque trailers. I'll start taking video game trailers seriously once the video game industry loses its erection for looking like a film. Video games should not attempt to be like a film. They should attempt to be an interactive medium.
Link / ReplyAnd to make a comment on the actual content, I'll agree with Rhineville in thinking that the dialogue is really dumb and "heavy handed". I feel like I watched 50% of a plot synopsis with too much flash and not enough game.
Link / ReplyAlways happy to see more stealth games made. This looks like it has a lot of potential.
Link / ReplyIs memory and the human mind the next trend in the media (ex: Total Recall)? Looks interestingly...linear. But we'll see when it comes out.
