Capcom and Dontnod Entertainment Unveil New IP at Gamescom 'Remember Me' [UPDATE WITH GAMEPLAY!]

A year after unveiling a new IP entitled 'Adrift' at Gamescom 2011, Capcom has relaunched the project under the new title 'Remember Me'(trailer above). The title is being developed in conjunction with DONTNOD Entertainment, a new development studio based in Paris, France. Capcom released the following description of the game:
In Remember Me, players assume the role of Nilin, an elite memory hunter who is not only incredibly athletic and trained in martial arts, but also has the special ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even change their memories. When her own memory is erased, Nilin begins her journey to reclaim her identity and discover how she can change the world.
'Remember Me' certainly does not shy away from drawing inspiration from plenty of other sources. I had flashbacks of Minority Report, Deus Ex, P.N.03, and Devil May Cry while watching this trailer. Of course, I wouldn't consider this to be a bad thing; these names should be considered to be memorable names in their respective genres (with the exception of P.N.03 maybe). Not without their problems, they each brought something to the table that has served as inspiration for many games/films to follow. Hopefully the final product does not share the unremarkable fate of 'Syndicate', a recent game set in a similar cyber-punk setting.
Considering Capcom's stellar debut of Dragon's Dogma as a new IP and the excellent handling of the Devil May Cry reboot (IMO), it's needless to say that my hopes are pretty high for another new IP from Capcom. The introduction of a new female lead and the slick cyber-punk setting both have me rather excited. With some futuristic memory-hunting and high-octane, third-person action thrown in on top, this is definitely a game that I will be keeping my eye on.
A new announcement like this is exciting but not without its areas for concern. With no mention of deeper mechanics, RPG or otherwise, I am concerned that the game might be a little on the shallow side. Also, DONTNOD Entertainment is a new studio with no projects under its belt to help vet the talent that is involved. Capcom is usually comfortable name dropping major talent from previous projects in order to build hype but nothing has been mentioned as of yet. Hopefully more will be revealed at Gamescom this week or in the coming months.
Chris here. Along with the announcement trailer Capcom also released a gameplay video with seven minutes of fresh, delicious footage. Check it out:
I have been around since the very early days of 4Player but you may know me as “the short one” or the guy who is really into Dexter and that sweet new DmC reboot. I am a gaming enthusiast at my core and I love sharing my opinions on the subject with anyone who will listen. I am a cautious optimist and will try any game at least once. When it comes to gaming, I prefer to leave no stone unturned.
