THQ Cancels Guillermo del Toro's 'Insane'

THQ has announced that Guillermo del Toro's 'Insane' is no longer in production and effectively canceled. This happened in an investor call just a short time ago.
More when it comes but...
...this project always rung with an air of Vaporware to me and, if I can find it, I believe I wrote months ago that this project was probably never going to come to fruition.
THQ president Jason Rubin has said in a statement, ""We have decided not to pursue further pre-production on Insane, and have returned all of our IP rights to Guillermo del Toro."
No word on how far in production inSane actually went, but THQ has been on a mission lately to cancel unfruitful projects, and realign other services in order to make the company more profitable.
In light of this Rubin also stated, "Consistent with this vision, THQ has made a few changes to previously announced projects. First, we made the determination not to pursue any casual Facebook games. Second, we will not be publishing casual mobile games, including those with Innovative Leisure. And third, we have decided not to pursue further pre-production on Insane, and have returned all of our IP rights to Guillermo del Toro. By canceling these explorations outside of our core business, we feel we can improve focus on our core game portfolio, which remains unchanged."
This goes in line with statements THQ has made recently regarding the new "focused" direction of the company. Since taking over for CEO Danny Bilson in May, Rubin has been on a mission to get THQ back to profitability and has angered some with the companies new direction which has included slashing projects and possibly seeking a more serious direction for the Saints Row series.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean the complete end to this project. Guillermo del Toro currently retains all the rights to this IP -including film rights- so it's possible we may see it surface again in the future. Perhaps even in another medium if a different publisher fails to pick it up.
