Video: Introversion Demo Prison Architect

During the Eurogamer sponsored event Rezzed, that happened earlier this month in Brighton, Introversion (Darwinia, DEFCON) demonstrated their new game, Prison Architect. Chris Delay, the creative mind at Introversion, retold the story of how their previous game, Subversion, was put on hold.
Subversion was a game of many interworking systems: simulated electronics, guard artificial intelligence and even entire city generation. Delay found a problem making these systems, that he worked on for many years, into something that was fun to play. Development came to a stand still until a trip to Alcatraz on vacation in California, where he was inspired, but it was inspiration to make a different game.
He designed the majority Prison Architect in a notebook on the long airplane ride back to England. In the video captured by Eurogamer embedded above, Delay also shows where the prison management sim is at now. Prison Architect is planned to be released as a paid alpha (à la Minecraft) sometime this year.
