Vatra Games, developer of Silent Hill: Downpour, and Rush 'n Attack: Ex-Patriot is currently 'under review' by UK-based parent company Kuju Entertainment for possible closure.

Word leaked out when 2K Czech employee David Semik tweeted "Vatra Games RIP," which prompted Kuju Entertainment to produce the following statement:

"The new management team at Kuju have been conducting a strategic review of all aspects of the business, as part of this process the on-going business activities of the Vatra studio are currently under review, however, at this stage no decisions have yet been made,"

Vatra Games was founded by Kuju Entertainment in 2009, primarily composed of ex-Illusion Software and 2K Czech employees, after already securing a deal with Konami for the development of Downpour.  Upon release, Downpour has been met with mediocre critical reception and received an overall score of 68/100 on critical scoring site Metacritic.

Word is that Vatra Games is currently in development of a third person action title in the vein of Darksiders or God of War. Of course, if the studio shuts down we'll probably never see any of that.

Best of luck to them.

Since Konami has such terrible marking, they might as well take every new title they have and make it say METAL GEEEEEAAAAARRRRRRRRR

Jeez! Where did the game industry go so wrong? I mean back in the PS2/Xbox era, game studios shutting down was not a common thing, but now... I mean, how many studios got shut down this year? Is it because of the shift to new generation consoles? Are we going too fast with this? Is the greed the new black? I know everything changed because of the financial crisis, but still... I think that the gaming industry doesn't know what it's doing anymore.

The cost of making a game is getting really high and studios are taking huge losses instead of making a profit. People may think EA is raking in a lot of money but in reality they show losses on their financial statements. The industry needs to back the fuck up before it gets out of hand. http://www.notenoughshaders.com/2012/07/02/the-rise-of-costs-the-fall-of-gaming/ This article is long but a good read.

This is fucking sad and it proves my point that the gaming industry has completely lost it. It's so focus on business, that it lost completely the gaming part. There's also the fact that real gamers are usually getting misunderstand. I say real gamer, cause to me a graphic seeker is not a real gamer and i think that the industry is mostly listening to the graphic seekers.

The game hasn't even been out for 6 months and they're already being shutdown?

As much as I disliked Downpour, it's always sad to see game studios shut down.
