E3 2012: Lucas Arts announces Star Wars 1313

It is no surprise that many have begun to lose faith in a franchise as old and beloved as Star Wars. Despite the short-lived success of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, not nearly enough has been done to rekindle affection for that galaxy far far away after the new trilogy debacle.

Gametrailers TV has launched their annual Pre-E3 coverage and with it, the debut of several previously unannounced games. Among them is the reveal of a new, more mature take on the Star Wars universe entitled Star Wars 1313. 1313 is third-person, action game that will supposedly put players in the shoes of an elite bounty hunter as he works to uncover a criminal conspiracy in the underbelly of Coruscant.

Based on some of the artwork that was shown, it seems that the game will deal largely in the time period depicted in the original trilogy (you know... the good one). Not only that, but their choice to focus on bounty hunters rather than Jedi/Sith is a welcome change that I think will ultimately work in the games favor.

Lucas Arts will reveal the first gameplay demonstration on Monday night just before E3 kicks off on Tuesday. We have an appointment with Lucas Arts to see the game and will hopefully have a chance to get some hands-on time with the game over the course of the next week. Be sure to download our E3 podcasts to hear our full impressions.

I have been around since the very early days of 4Player but you may know me as “the short one” or the guy who is really into Dexter and that sweet new DmC reboot. I am a gaming enthusiast at my core and I love sharing my opinions on the subject with anyone who will listen. I am a cautious optimist and will try any game at least once. When it comes to gaming, I prefer to leave no stone unturned.

I am looking forward to this game. I don't even need any more info than this and I fully intend to buy this day-one.

I have mixed feelings about this I would like a new star wars game but I don't want a third person shooter (which I'm assuming is the type of game it will be) with 100+ cover spots.

Those that were excited about Prey 2, should be excited about this one.

I just don't understand. KoToR has such a large fan base, a third title would be an instant hit and be a huge pay off. Why are they avoding it? I'm tired of these starwars games I don't care about.

Couldn't agree more, I loved the KOTOR series and I'd kill for another, modern (but hopefully not "consolized") KOTOR title. On the other hand, a SW game with less focus on lightsabers and Force Choke might do the franchise some good.

SWToR is as close to Kotor III you'll probably ever see.

I'm still hoping on a HD release of Republic Commando. Or a sequel, or another game with similar mechanics.

Well, if Republic Commando is any indication, a Star Wars game without force users and as a shooter can work really well. As the resident Star Wars fanboy, of course Im excited for this; I just hope it doesn't just become a generic, cover system, shooter that just so happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. At the very least, Im hoping the team behind this game takes advantage of the plethora of weapons and explosives the Star Wars universe has.

What Lucas Arts should do is make Adventure games again. Stuff like Grim Fandango. Or anything that's at least not Star Wars

Not interested unless they announced Battlefront 3.
