Trailer Talk Episode 1
By Nick Henderson on November 3rd, 2011 (54 comments)
Thanks to some unforseen circumstances and setbacks, this new video feature is a little late. Each week, we will view and provide some brief commentary on the latest and greatest trailers. Outside interference not withstanding, we hope to make this a weekly feature. Our first episode features Syndicate, I Am Alive, and more! Enjoy!

I have been around since the very early days of 4Player but you may know me as “the short one” or the guy who is really into Dexter and that sweet new DmC reboot. I am a gaming enthusiast at my core and I love sharing my opinions on the subject with anyone who will listen. I am a cautious optimist and will try any game at least once. When it comes to gaming, I prefer to leave no stone unturned.

Pretty sweet guys. With the logo, the video is so classy.
Link / Replythis is a great new segment. cant wait for next week trailer talk.
Link / ReplyThis is pretty freakin' cool. I'm glad you guys are trying new things, and this seems to be one really good idea. I can't wait to see more.
Link / ReplyJust wanna say, just watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to it in the future.
Link / ReplyI enjoy hearing y'all's (?) opinions on trailers, teasers, etc. on the shows and so it's pretty damn awesome to watch a segment that's dedicated to that. Can't wait for the next Trailer Talk. Also, Cabela's Survival... WTF? It's the first I've heard of this. xD Awesome.
Link / ReplySweet segment. I now have a reason to watch trailers again!
Link / Replybooya!
Link / ReplyAwesome video feature, guys. Trailers tend to play a large role in terms of my initial thoughts for a game, so it's nice to hear some commentary on them too.
Link / ReplyWait...Nick doesn't know what a Beholder is?
Link / ReplyHe also never heard of analinguist was until cocktail time xD I love the Commentary you guys provided! Can't wait to see more of these
Link / ReplyWoah, I really like this new segment. Looking forward to next weeks now!
Link / ReplyDragon's Dogma, I Am Alive and Saints Row all look fantastic. I'm especially excited for Dragon's Dogma now, it looks that given enough polish it has the potential to be an extraordinary game. Very entertaining feature guys, I look forward to next week's.
Link / ReplyNew segment is great guys. Dragons Dogma looks pretty sweet, though the shadow of the colossus style climbing looked pretty bad. Didn't seem like the character was really grabbing on. Then again, there's quite a while before it's released so that shit will probably be sorted out by then. As for Syndicate, fuck that. While it may turn out to be a good game on its own merits, I really don't care. It's the same thing that's being done to X Com, and so I have no interest in it.
Link / ReplyPerhaps you should give both of those title a chance before writing them off for changing. XCom was one of the most interesting titles I saw at E3. It's a wonderful blend of strategy based combat and first person shooting.
Link / ReplyIf I rated the games from anticipation, I'd say Xcom is a 7 while Syndicate is a 9. If Xcom sells well, we might see more shooters becoming Mass Effect, while Syndicate really is going for something completely unseen before in both graphics and gameplay. I'm sorry Xcom, you should have became a horror game from what I remember old Xcom. Going into an environment where the location of the enemy is unknown, possible ambushes around every corner. Instead going to be call of duty with aliens with rpg elements. I just feel they could have done a lot more with it than what I have seen.
Link / ReplyThe strategy elements in the new X Com seem to me to be very weak, which is understandable as it's not a strategy game but an FPS with strategy elements thrown in. They've taken everything that people loved about X Com and everything that made it a great strategy game, chucked it out the window and instead made a FPS with some strategy elements sprinkled on top and its only connection to X Com, is the name X Com. It's like if Sid Meier's next game was a third person action adventure hack and slash type thing, called Civilization 6. The new X Com is to the original X Com what Far Cry 2 is to Far Cry 1. Similar in name only. So why is it called X Com when it is about as far removed from X Com as Jessica Alba is from my penis? Lets ask 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann why: "The ‘90s generation of gamers all love Xcom and we own the IP, so we thought OK, what do we do with it? Every studio we had wanted to do it and each one had its own spin on it. But the problem was that turn-based strategy games were no longer the hottest thing on planet Earth. But this is not just a commercial thing – strategy games are just not contemporary." Source: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/interview-christophhartmann-2kgames/082216 After sorting that through the BS translator it says: "We want the money Lebowski!". They decided that they didn't think a strategy game would be popular - A claim which can be rejected simply by pointing at a copy of Starcraft 2 - and so they decided to pile on the bandwagon and make yet another FPS with token strategy elements in a market already overcrowded with FPS games. If any of what I've written sounds hostile or angry in anyway, I'd like you to know it's not my intent. I just get worked up about this particular issue. @Bombader I doubt it will sell very well for two reasons. The first is because of people who hate it for the obvious (failed) attempt at a cash grab that it is - That would be me - and the second is because its planned release date at the time of me writing this, is March 6th. That would be the same day that Mass Effect 3 is released. In the same interview I linked to above, Christoph also says that the reason he thinks Bioshock 2 didn't sell well, was because it was released two weeks after Mass Effect 2. WOOPS! Guess history is doomed to repeat itself.
Link / ReplyLiking the new segment, looking forward to the upcoming ones!
Link / ReplyThis was awesome guys.
Link / ReplyGreat new segment guys. Can't wait to see more!
Link / ReplyThis was fantastic. I think I'm going to love this new segment.
Link / Reply:O Wah, this was awesome! I look forward to seeing more.
Link / ReplyThis is the first trailer I saw for Syndicate and I'm excited to see more. Dragon's Dogma looks so good and I like the online idea with you being able to download someone character into your game and they can still level up, sounds awesome. Great new segment.
Link / ReplyLove it! It was cool seeing you guys review game trailers.
Link / ReplyThis is great; loving it.
Link / ReplyThat's really cool
Link / ReplyOh man this is awesome.
Link / ReplyAwesome Segment Guys! Keep up the great work!
Link / ReplyAlso, Sasha Grey is really your favourite porn star? Really?
Link / ReplyShe's adorable...
Link / ReplyThis is a great new segment! You are really going in the direction of a website that is more than podcasts and live broadcasting! Can't wait to hear your opinions on the new GTA V trailer!
Link / ReplyAlso, maybe spice things up with some more rewinds and pauses for the shorter trailers. It is a little boring looking at the black screen at the end while you talk. And get some smoother transitions!
Link / ReplyThis is great! I haven't seen the majority of those trailers, and it was even more interesting to hear impressions and trivia.
Link / ReplyI liked this. You know, like three weeks ago when it was released on Twitter.
Link / ReplyThis is why you should follow all of the 4Player staff on twitter. We sometimes share stuff we're working on early with our followers. ;)
Link / ReplyI'm digging this. I'm pretty stoked for more.
Link / ReplyAre any of the other members of 4pp gonna be in these videos in the future?
Link / ReplyI don't want to be telling you how to run your shit but this is just some friendly advice...my 2 cents. Upload this to Youtube, as you have a pretty big following there, might bring attraction to the site and the embedded youtube player is not terrible. Also perhaps adding a short intro and outro with your name on it and perhaps with "more on 4playerpodcast.com". I love this, lets me see the trailers in a collective and have your lovely input to it as well. :D
Link / ReplyIt's like Yogtrailers but you actually know what you're talking about.
Link / ReplyFukcing awesome new segment, hope you do it with the GTA5 trailer.
Link / ReplyGreat segment guys !
Link / ReplyI'm glad to see a new style segment on the site :) and look forward to the next episode. Would the next step be video reviews from you guys - cause i think that would rock :)
Link / ReplyI liked this, as long as you "wing it" so to say, wich you clearly did and I loved that about this segement. Give us your opinions about the trailers and games on the spot rather than having it scripted so we can relate to those opinions. Also, are you covering more obscure games or only triple A titles? Because the excitement is already there, you would only say the things we already know when it comes to those high budget games.
Link / ReplyThis new segment is fucking awesome!!
Link / ReplyCool can't wait for the next : )
Link / ReplyLove this, keep it up guys. It'd be cool if you got even more of you guys in this to commentate it.
Link / Replyyou should try to post these on youtube, could help get a bigger auidence
Link / ReplyGotta admit, I'm horrible with keeping up with trailers so this is a fantastic segment! Absolutely cannot wait to see what you bring us next week :)
Link / ReplyNice job guys, can't wait for future episodes. :)
Link / ReplyGreat new segment, and an awesome way to cover new trailers without having to write out posts for each. I think it's a great idea.
Link / Replyi like this idea.
Link / ReplySo cool!
Link / ReplyI think this is an awesome idea! I love hearing yalls input on game trailers! Oh and congrats on winning BOTH best gaming podcast and best all around! Keep up the excellent work, you guys! Viva la 4PP!
Link / Replycool stuff guys!
Link / ReplyLove this sort of segment. Yogscast did it with YogTrailers but you guys are taking a more professional approach to it which is cool. Can't wait to see further episodes.
